Upcoming girls’ independent SW London schools 11+ exams

Are there any parents on this board with DDs due to sit independent school exams in January? If so where do you stand in terms of shortlisting schools, revisions etc Are you planning to do any work over the summer?

We are still in the process of fine tuning the list of schools... We will probably end up applying to about 4/5 schools, of which 2 are in the same consortium which means 3/4 exams max.
As far as I am aware, our prep has not recommended any specific revisions for the summer, but I was still planning to make her write some maths, English and VR/NVR past papers, as 2 months without doing anything seems too much so close to the exams. I was thinking of making her do one paper a week in each subject, on top of reading and boosting her vocabulary, with two weeks in August without any paper/formal work.

Any tips on what we should be doing at this stage and over summer holidays, notably from parents with past experience, would be super useful!

Thank you

DD got a surprise academic scholarship offer from Woldingham school. She is so excited

We need to let them know by the 1st of March

stellagibbons · 14/12/2020 11:31

@WarmAndco3y - well done to your DD - that's amazing!

Mimijoyx · 14/12/2020 12:02

@WarmAndco3y congratulations and well done!! :)) we also got a surprise academic scholarship offer from Woldingham this morning, we are thrilled! Now I need some insights about Woldingham as we do not have much information other than what the website offers. Especially with regards to the commuting girls from the city, how they manage etc. If we decide to accept, we intend to move to Clapham, so my only concern is the commute especially during winter time. Any insights?

WarmAndco3y · 14/12/2020 12:09

@stellagibbons, thank you. It was a lovely surprise to wake up to.

@Mimijoyx lots of girls commute from London, the station is literarily near the school, so that shouldn’t be too much of a worry. A big congratulations to your DD. It means we can relax over the Christmas break, as we wait on the rest of the schools.

dazedandconfused11plus · 14/12/2020 17:03

Many congratulations to your DDs @warm and @mimi - such wonderful news!

Regarding PHS : Has everyone who has applied for scholarships in sport heard back either way ? We haven’t heard anything yet so just wondering before I contact them
Thank you.

Whoop whoop @WarmAndco3y and @Mimijoyx that’s wonderful news! It’s not on our list so I’m not able to help much but I’m so pleased for you. Is it a contender or a good back up? (Beautiful grounds, nicknamed the Harry Potter school in our area!)

@stellagibbons SCHS were offering tours in early Jan (I think) to anyone who hadn’t visited. Might be worth contacting admissions as I’m sure they would squeeze you in if safe to do so.

Stircrazyschoolmum · 14/12/2020 19:42

@montlieu I’ve no idea how I highlighted your message! We’ve not done any sports scholarships so I can’t help I’m afraid.. are admissions still in or have they left for Xmas?

Oceane11Plus · 15/12/2020 09:43

I confirm that although the school is off, admissions are working this week (at least they were yesterday).

@Stircrazyschoolmum, thanks and yes it is a contender for us.

Mimijoyx · 15/12/2020 11:06

@Stircrazyschoolmum thanks much, it is one of our two top choices. The other one is IB and we really like the whole IB concept and program, so it will be a hard decision in that sense. We will re-evaluate and decide once we know the others’ results.

Trialsat11 · 15/12/2020 13:54

Hello , Has anyone applied to Sutton High school and know when their results are coming ? I know it was supposed to be before Christmas but wondering if there is a date by which they will send

Stickyspiderman · 15/12/2020 14:39

Do you know how many academic scholarships Woldingham offered? Also - is there anyway if knowing how they did in the ISEB?

Mimijoyx · 15/12/2020 14:44

@Stickyspiderman not sure how many they offered. I did call to ask about the ISEB score but they don’t share :(

WarmAndco3y · 15/12/2020 16:11

@Stickyspiderman sorry, I don’t know the answer to either of those questions

Corblimbea · 15/12/2020 20:59

@Stickyspiderman a fair few if DD’s school is anything to go by. Some of the boarding schools tend to give lots of 5% scholarships to put their day fees in line with london day schools. I know our Head says this is quite common.

Corblimbea · 15/12/2020 21:02

@Trialsat11 had an email today to say they were posting them so maybe tomorrow if first class....or sometime next year if second class!! it does say you can email for results too though - when was your daughter’s Sutton test? Ours was one of the last I think so not had to wait long

Trialsat11 · 15/12/2020 23:01

@Corblimbea my daughter’s test was back in November - I think the first few batches .
I didn’t receive any email from Sutton though it’s good to know that the results will be in soon!

Flossietea · 16/12/2020 15:38

Anybody else just got the email from SHS with the exam-at-home info? Am I blind or have they not attached the photos they refer to? It says in the instructions to position the label / device “as shown in the photo below” but there are no photos!

Mimijoyx · 16/12/2020 15:58

@Flossietea We received the email and I noticed the photos are missing too. I will email back and ask.

Flossietea · 16/12/2020 16:00

@Mimijoyx so glad it’s not just me!

LittleBlackBear · 16/12/2020 16:13

Is SHS Sydenham High School? If so we’ve not had anything yet.

Trialsat11 · 16/12/2020 16:59

Though this is an Indy school thread , does anyone know what was the cutoff for Nonsuch OOC last year .

DD cleared the second stage but not sure her score is good enough for OOC

Flossietea · 16/12/2020 17:17

@LittleBlackBear no Surbiton High School. Sorry!

Singingrain1223 · 16/12/2020 17:30

@Trialsat11 , on the elevenplusexams.co.U.K. Website in the Surrey section there is a link to the nonsuch school website for historic data (Nonsuch thread)
