For budding engineers going into 6th form september 21

The Arkwright scholarship will open in the autumn
My DS did it and had some great experiences through the scheme. He didnt end up an engineer but is working as a technician in manufacturing now

I'd be wary of any organisation asking an application fee

Agree, it’s a great scheme. Don’t be put off by the application fee (£40) - the benefits to the students vastly outweigh the cost of applying, and anyway it’s often the school that pays for the application.

Im only putting this here because not many have heard of it and it will be time soon to be applying for next year.

There is nothing to be wary of. Its a well thought of industry based scholarship.
The schools pay the £40 for application, no different than entering any other exam. Arkwright is a charity. The application involves an exam taken at the school, for those who pass the exam they then they are invited to present a project at universites such as Imperial, Cambridge , Southampton etc
The winners are then sponsored by companies all around the country including Rolls Royce . My ds was sponsored by the Worshipful company of Founders
The winners are given £600 to spend in 6th form. The school is also given money to spend in their engineering dept. My ds also sent on a course at Imperial.
Its a brilliant opportunity for those who want a career in STEM

DS2 is thinking about it. From what I understand it is a really well thought of scheme and definitely one to consider for any budding engineer.

I would also say that the exam isnt really about knowledge, its more to see how their mind works and problem solving. DS had to design a snow clearing machine and a bubble maker

Arkwright is fantastic - extremely competitive, so award holders (and to be honest anyone who gets past the first stage) have a real plus on their CV for anything engineering/design based in their future
