Looking for schools in Twickenham area for DD 13 as returned from abroad just before lockdown.
Before we lobby the LA to see where there might be an in year place, just wondered if people could share their experience in the provision. They have received from these schools (or any others - Teddington/Turing House?).

Hi. I've got a child in year 8 at Turing, and have friends with kids at Orleans Park and Waldegrave, Teddington. They've all been getting similar as far as I can tell, and all been evolving for the better as time goes on. They get work set from all subjects each week via Class Charts or Google Classroom or other virtual learning environments, in line with the topics they'd be covering at school. Some teachers have been recording video lessons to introduce their worksheets and others not. There hasn't been much live teaching up to now but I think schools are working towards enabling that once they've trained all the teachers, sorted out their tech and resolved all the safeguarding concerns. I know some of the older year groups have been getting live lessons and they record them so you can watch them later if you miss the session.
The form teachers phone regularly to check the kids are doing ok (and more regularly for the vulnerable kids). They monitor how often they check in and how much time they're spending online, but there's no pressure to do all the work - they advise concentrating on Maths, English, Science then doing as much as possible of the other subjects. When the lockdown first happened some parents were crying out for less work, and others for more, so I think flexibility has been the compromise and most people seem happy now. There are sometimes tech frustrations - people getting locked out of accounts etc, but they generally get resolved pretty quickly.
