Initially it appeared to be Yr11 and Yr13 but I’ve seen Primary schools highlighting it, so that would bring in Yr6.
I’d like to think it might involve the much mooted ‘voucher’ but I’m not holding my breath on that notion Grin

Monkey2001 · 10/07/2020 09:55

It is up there, ready to be streamed. Kids in bed (of course), my job to watch and tell them if he says anything they would want to hear.

Monkey2001 · 10/07/2020 09:57

In case you want to watch

Heifer · 10/07/2020 10:09

@Monkey2001 my job to watch and tell them if he says anything they would want to hear.

That's a no then...

Monkey2001 · 10/07/2020 10:11

@heifer underwhelming is all that needs to be said. Particularly for those IB people with baffling grades who lost their university places.

ProggyMat · 10/07/2020 10:12

In DDs words: ‘what a pile of shite’ (edited version)...

Zandathepanda · 10/07/2020 10:47

Can someone please summarise what he’s said? I managed a minute of it.

RedskyAtnight · 10/07/2020 10:55

Executive summary:

Thank you for all your sacrifices; I know you've had to give up a lot of the things you were looking forward to, but it has been worth it to protect our country

You are an amazingly , intelligent, enthusiastic, energetic bunch of people and we want to use your talents to make our country a better place in the future.

Delivered a la Churchill, but in my head sounded like Matt Lucas' spoof BJ speech

OrangeCinnamon1 · 10/07/2020 11:02

I'm disturbed by all this talk of 'rebuilding' like Corona is not a real threat anymore.

OrangeCinnamon1 · 10/07/2020 11:04

That word 'resilience' was used quite a lot i.e you're gonna have to get tougher!

FoolsAssassin · 10/07/2020 11:04

It’s the new word of the moment to persuade us back out . Won’t last, another will be along shortly.

Zandathepanda · 10/07/2020 11:27

Redsky thank you. For a minute I thought he was going to offer them all a free slap up McDonalds/Nando’s and beer on the very probable off-chance they would create a bit of herd immunity for September (not that he would admit to that of course). Dd is shielding and is getting fed up of seeing photos of Yr11 not social distancing on her phone. I did say that if they all get it it’s better for her in September but she’s still fed up.

Zandathepanda · 10/07/2020 11:38

Given Cumming’s love of a 3 word slogan, there’s going another ‘re-‘ word added to resilience and rebuilding.

FoolsAssassin · 10/07/2020 13:34

Resolution

‘Keep picking yourself up and trying again’.
Let’s hope that’s not a nod to August and being floored, yet again.

FoolsAssassin · 10/07/2020 16:44

We’ve just lost one of DS’s year group to drugs . It’s so sad.

OP posts:
Monkey2001 · 10/07/2020 17:07

@FoolsAssassin that is terrible - when you say lost, do you mean he has dropped out of the group or that he has died? Do you think the virus affected his mental state or has he been off the tracks for a long time?

frustrationcentral · 10/07/2020 17:13

It was all a load of twaddle really, I woke DS up especially to listen to it!

FoolsAssassin · 10/07/2020 17:14

It’s a girl and yes very sadly I do mean died. I don’t know her, some friend’s DD’s do and it sounds as if may have been using for a bit. Have heard a couple of things , one is that was an adverse reaction to one tablet rather than an overdose. Incredibly sad and a very strong reminder to the other DC that it can just take one tablet.

The summer of discovidtent

Love it! 😉😀😉

UmbrellaHat · 10/07/2020 17:22

Sorry did not see posts below -had just seen original post. So sorry for the loss of the child 🙁🙁🙁

FoolsAssassin · 10/07/2020 17:32

Don’t worry Umbrella, figured you hadn’t seen it. Don’t want to put downer on the thread but thought it might be something to talk to the DC about.

Such a sad thing. I remember when I was in Y11, a diabetic boy went out to celebrate his 16th birthday, had some drinks, did not take his insulin and died.

Puts the GCSE angst into perspective and must be awful for all the people around her, including the whole year group even if they were not friends. Flowers

Wheresthebeach · 10/07/2020 18:19

That’s so awful. Those poor parents.

Fiddlersgreen · 10/07/2020 21:40

@FoolsAssassin I thought we must be the same school for a second then I saw it was a girl who died.
We lost a boy from our school last week, same thing, just one bad tablet.
It’s so sad and my heart breaks for his parents.
DS didn’t know him very well but some of his now close friends were good friends with the boy back in primary school.
A group of them are going to stand by his house to watch the funeral cars leave as a mark of respect as they obviously they can’t attend the funeral itself
