My dd has had a wobbly few years with MH. About to start Alevels. If she needs to retake her first or second year. Is that a possibility?

We do allow some students to resit in the large FE college I work in but it will very much depend on the teachers assessment of whether the learner would be allowed to do so - mental health problems which are improving, illness etc would all be taken into account. Poor attendance and lack of focus on work despite repeated attempts at intervention not so much!

There are differences between sixth form colleges and FE colleges OP.
The sixth form college that dd attended did have 3 year courses but these tended to be aimed at students who had poor experiences at GCSE who perhaps needed to retake GCSEs or level 2 equivalents before starting A level. most of their students caught up and did well after starting A levels a year later.
You can also take A levels at an FE college and courses are free for years where the student is 19 years old or under.
There are also Access to Further Education courses for over 19 year olds. These aren't free but are an equivalent to A levels for entering most degree courses and are only 1 year long.

Level 3 courses are funded as long as the student taking them is under 19 when they start the course. I teach 6th form in a specialist context (subject - not to do with SEND) and one of my student was 18 when she started. She'll be finishing this year and is 20 now. Every year I have at least a couple who started A Levels and didn't get on with them so started again. There is also one girl who did both year 12 and most of year 13 and then started year 12 again with us.
