How to find sixth form colleges

AnyOldPrion · 17/05/2020 19:50

I am currently living overseas but have started to apply for jobs in the north of England. Is there an easy way to locate secondary schools that take 16-18 year olds, or sixth form colleges? On Rightmove only primary and secondary schools are listed, and the secondaries seem mostly to be 11-16 year olds only.

I presume once I know an exact location, I can contact whichever is the nearest secondary school and ask, but I would prefer to get some idea beforehand as it might influence where we choose to live.

Some schools have 6th forms and some areas have separate 6th Form colleges. It will be under Further Education which covers 16-18

You can use the govt league tables and set it for the local authority where you are house searching. I have set it to Durham becasue it's the only place North I could think of. There is lots of useful information if you drilldown on the table.

www.compare-school-performance.service.gov.uk/schools-by-type?step=default&table=schools&region=840&la-name=county-durham&geographic=la&for=16to18&orderby=ks5.0.TALLPPE_ALEV_1618&orderdir=asc

Thank you both. The term “further education“ is useful. Hadn’t thought to use it.

The league tables are less helpful than they should be. They cover huge regions and the area I’m looking at falls between two. There’s a map, which would be very useful if I could filter it so only sixth form colleges appeared. Thanks anyway for the info. I was hoping there would be a simpler way to find out, but maybe there isn’t. I guess most people find out the local information at their current school.

What about searching by parliamentary constituency?

If you just google county / local authority / town name and FE college then you should get a list.

You can filter the league tables to 16-18....
