If my chld gets a place from a waiting list to a private school 9 secondary, how to cancel the state school ( fath school)? Thank you

When will the next child who is on a waiting list for secondary woudl be able to get a place? feel slightly awkward and woudl lke to start the process asap which would enable the child who is on a wiating list to be offered a place

If you have confirmed your place with the private school and you are definitely going with them you should email the LA now

We were asked by the LA which school we were going to when we turned down the state offer. They need to know that the child will be in education or home educated.

In theory they could reallocate it straight away, although there may also be appeals coming up.

We were not asked by the LA when we declined the place to take up the private offer, so maybe it depends on the LA.

We didn't tell the LA, we told the secondary school (on the basis that it was the school we needed to inform to tell them whether we were accepting or declining the place). The school asked which private school we were going to, but only if we were happy to tell them (which we were).

When we declined our state place we were asked what school our child was attending. I provided the name of the school so no idea if they would have followed up if I hadn't.

Admissions authorities (school or LA, depending on the type of school) are not permitted to hold back places pending successful appeals. If a place becomes available and there is a waiting list, it must be offered out again. The only exception would be for a designated grammar school with no more qualified applicants waiting for a place.
