School return policy

Just sharing really.

Our school has said that, if it happens this term, as and when schools start re-opening:

  • they will continue to set work online
  • no penalties for anyone who chooses not to return
  • some flexible attendance will be possible
  • no way will the whole school be back full time

Makes sense. I’m not really concerned about my year 8 going back this term but will be delighted if my year 10 gets even a day a week. I really feel it would help his motivation and keep his focused on home learning which is so important for GCSEs next year.

Y12 parent. DD's school are desperate to get the Y10 and 12s back. They break up really early and have already said that this will be extended (it isn't as if anyone has booked holidays). They have a lot of grounds and space and I think they will push for an early return.

I would love to see her back for the same reasons as bigbannana, motivation and focus.

Interesting. Is it private or state?

TeenPlusTwenties · 09/05/2020 20:40

State comp.

I'd be very happy if ds2 (yr 12) went back even one day a week. I think it would be really beneficial for him in so many ways.

Should be possible to teach yr 12 in socially distanced way - his PE class is only 14 for example.

Even if he just had three actual lessons a week it would help his motivation.

Brave move from state comp when we've had nothing from the government yet.

TeenPlusTwenties · 10/05/2020 11:49

Herc Note. They aren't saying they are re-opening any time soon. Just allaying fears about kids not being forced back sooner than parents want due to work no longer being posted online, or fines.

Still a very bold move regarding online learning. I wouldn't put that expectation on staff without knowing what opening is going to look like.

Stircrazyschoolmum · 10/05/2020 12:05

We’ve been given a fairly clear steer that the exam years will be first back. We were told it would be ‘at least September’ for most of year 8. (Priority cases exceptions)

TeenPlusTwenties · 10/05/2020 12:11

Oh, I see what you mean.
It is a well run school generally, so I guess they've thought about it.
