ANY TEACHERS WITH THEIR KIDS IN BOARDING SCHOOLS please? :)

So, me and my DH were discussing the pros and cons of boarding schools - just conversationally really; and he sent me out on a quest of a feedback on the issue from teachers (presumably at normal schools) who made the decision of sending THEIR kids to boarding. (I guess he wants to hear from ''normal'' people within the field on whether and why they made such choice)
What made them choose so? What do they think about the experience? Are they happy with their choice? Why? Any input would be much appreciated. Know someone who is in this position? Please spill all the beans, Thank you Thank you x

How many teachers can afford to send their kids to a boarding school?

I can't. I couldn't afford to send them to a private school either. Luckily they went to a brilliant state one that achieves better than the local private schools. DD1 is now at Cambridge. They class her as from a low-income background. We earn less than a year's boarding fees.

Average uk teacher salary - 38k.
Typical boarding school fees - 30k, plus extras.

I know a couple with children at boarding schools and loads with children at private schools - all married to higher earners- but I doubt any of them would want to be in a magazine article or similar!

No this isnt for any article lol, its honestly been a conversation in my house. My hubbies mum used to be a teacher and is no longer around, I guess he wants to know what a teacher would think about sending kids off to private school - when they are capable to teach them well at home, for example. OR push them furthef than a state school would - again at home. 😊

I was watching documentaries about boarding schools and the level of achievement and independence they foster, and I do think there are major advantages to it. (I would have loved it as a teen tbh!) But then there is this whole 'wanting to have kiddies at home' as I do love them dearly :) Hubbie seems to think that only a teacher who has made such decision (as to send them away) has the necessary credentials so yeah, if you have any pros or cons; or thoughts; or opinions, do let me know, please, so I am debate-ready

Thank you so much for taking the time. So, I guess first I must ask: Why did your mum decide to have you at boarding school despite the fact she technically could've given you top-notch learning experience at home? Do you know what hef thought process on that was?

I chose to go and applied for a scholarship behind her back and got one.

So then it was a discussion as to why did I want this and was it the right thing for me.

She worked full time and my dad worked abroad, I wanted more time with friends and less stress on her.

Wow, I love what you wrote - that what I wanted also when young, but my parents would have none of it.! Did you like it? And do you feep it affected your relationship with your momma in a bad way? Like you were distant to her, or she was not present for you etc. I guess thats always the biggest worry.

It made us all much much closer. We had quality time.

It made me independent, resilient, confident.

It was the best decision for all of us.

My baby was born in 2018 but I kept my user name as the pregnancy was so bad!

Love it! That's precisely what I was thinking. And your mum? Did she struggle with the idea initially but came around? Or was she up for it?

I don't really know how she felt, I know she missed me when I went away but enjoyed getting her own life back a bit more.

The success of it depends on the child, the school and the parent. It's a bit of a matching process, get the right kid at the right school and it works.

I feel you. I honestly kinda love the idea tbh... I guess also super telling thing to ask is: with the experience you had, if you were a SAHM, would you still opt for boarding for your booba? 👀

I am a teachers daughter , I went to boarding school and I enjoyed being academic however I hated school , to be fair it was ok but it was me being stuck there with loads of other kids that I hated , I'm someone who likes my own company too much , much better opportunities from my school than a state school so it was worth the effort

Teachers with children at boarding school seems really niche. If there is such a thing where are they working and can I get a job there?!
