Y11, GCSEs cancelled, how to motivate?

The school is setting ds daily school work across all subjects. It's not being marked and it can't count towards his GCSE grades. Since the exams have been cancelled he does not see the point of doing any of it and has no motivation to do so. I would like him to do the work set for his 3 A Level subjects at the very least. But he has absolutely no motivation to do so and the usual screaming match does not appeal now we're all caged in at home together. I tried emailing the school for support but no answer as yet, understandably.

How is anyone else approaching school work for their Y11 dcs? Any teachers on here with a view?

Definitely worth pursuing A level subjects. DD changed an A level choice after a week of Yr 12 to French, which she had not done since mid May, even now 2 yrs later she remembers how hard it was (as she had not intended to do it, so had forgotten it all!)

I can't see the point in making them do school work. Exams have been cancelled and no-one is going to look at any work they do.

DD has got a job, is re-reading favourite books, playing badminton in the garden, and of course sleeping too much and working her way through Disney+.

I'm a teacher, with y11 daughter, not putting any pressure on her to work, she has had enough to deal with. Having said that, she is now ready to pick up some pre A level work which is great, but that's her decision not mine and nothing to do with the school. The school is busy getting other students sorted with work and judging grades for the Y11s but work for them is low on their list of priorities.

My Y11 hasn’t been set anything work wise to do by the school since they broke up (Outstanding grammar). They’ve suggested some reading for A levels and provided the exam spec which has been interesting.

OP I teach but for KS1 - but I do have teenagers at home. TBH I'm surprised any teachers are still setting GCSE work for year 11 students - it is completely pointless! Teachers I know in high school basically told their year 11s to go home and take a break, and that they will send through do be preparatory work for their chosen A Levels. I don't blame your DC at all for having no motivation to do GCSE work and really don't understand the thinking behind setting it at all. I would definitely just concentrate on anything connected to A Level.

Ds1 lost interest in doing meaningless work a couple of weeks ago.
But his school announced they would soon be releasing prep for A'levels.

So I'll waiting till receive that, to see how committed he is.
