SATS abd GCSEs

Northernsoulgirl45 · 23/04/2020 09:06

Does anyone know or know how I can find out what a level 4, 5 or level 6 in SATS would relate to in predicted grades please?
I know that they probably won't matter on an individual level but I am s curious.

Thank you

On the basis you are talking about 4,5 and 6 in SATS I presume you have a child in Year 11 (they were the last year to be graded thus)? Has their school not ever given them predicted grades?

There are several widely used target prediction methods, but I'd suggest a 4 in SATS translates to 4/5 at GCSE and 5 in SATS translates to 6+ at GCSE.

A 6 is pretty much the highest you could get in Y6 isn't it, so that would be a 8/9 I expect. I found this after a quick google, might be a bit aspirational given it's from a school website, but it looks roughly right to me...

I should caveat with, that's what they are capable of theoretically, obviously how they've developed and how hard they've worked in the last 5 years will have a massive impact.

To be clear. The school shouldn't be looking at individual SATs results for predicting the GCSE grades. They should be looking at attainment during y10/y11.
The SATs should only be used as a cohort to check the school hasn't over-inflated (or under estimated) the grade profile of the cohort.

A few years back my DD1 was targeted a C, but had an optimistic prediction of an A at March, (ended up with a very high B). If she had been in this year's group I would have expected school to put her as a high ranked 6 or a low ranked 7.

Her targets were 7 across the board despite getting a better grade in one of her sats.
Thank you

@Northernsoulgirl45 If you look at the GCSE Summer 2020 thread 5, on page 5 Someone has posted a link which contains a table comparing SATs attainment and actual GCSE (Geography) grades 2019
Sorry I can’t copy and post link on this thread as I’m bloody useless on my phone!

Will take a look. Thank you
