Academic boarding schools with a decent intake of boys in Y12

Hello.

My son's interested in boarding for sixth form. He's currently at an independent day school which is quite academic.

Any suggestions? We're flexible about full or weekly. Based in South East but I don't mind a bit of a drive esp if it's full boarding.

I get the feeling that a lot of schools have a sizeable intake of new girls into the sixth form but not many boys. I'd love to find somewhere that had a reasonable number of new boys.

Thank you.

Tonbridge? Kings Canterbury? St Pauls?

I would pick the schools you really like. Most will have leavers and new pupils of both sexes. Then look at the 6th form prospectus. Plenty of boys schools recruit only boys! Co Ed will take both but some are more difficult to get into than others. Many schools are Co Ed all the way through, eg Rugby, Oundle, etc. So be realistic.

SPS did and it probably still does have a small boarding house comprised on boarders who mainly join in the 6th form. It's not traditional boarding but might suit someone whose not boarded before.
