Covid-19 school work

The few weeks before the Easter break seemed to me somewhat disorganised. Thought it might change from tomorrow but I’ve already had a few messages with work for DC and think they’ll continue as before.

The school doesn’t ask kids to register their presence in any way. Teachers use email/the school portal /texts/ twitter to set tasks. The subjects are random and don’t follow their timetable yet some teachers, instead of adding a deadline, just say when your next class would be due (😳 - they’re on a two week timetable and I doubt if the teachers even know where we’re at).

I’ll be on a work call and school will tweet a link and passcode for a ‘live’ session - I have to shout this through to my dc. I find it chaotic. I’d find it easier with one portal.

Has your school settled into a new regime?

Does our experience sound about right and normal?

Sounds pretty bad to me. Primary or secondary?

Ours has been much more organised than this, it all gets sent through on a Sunday night – so we just got what she has to do tomorrow for the whole week. Then next Sunday all of this week’s work will disappear from the app, and next week’s work will be set. She returns it to each teacher electronically , and most of them gave feedback x

Secondary.

Also the HT seems to have gone AWOL.

I can imagine it’s a nightmare for the teachers as well - wonder if there’s no strategy for them to follow.

@Ilkefresias - that sounds brilliant.

Ok, sounds like our school is in chaos.

I really don’t think tweeting work is the way to go.

My kids school haven’t been at all pro-active! They sent the kids home with a learning pack on the last day of school, which my daughter completed that evening! I have had to print off loads of work sheets for my children, I also had to find out about educational websites by myself (prodigy game is good) the school don’t seem that bothered, perhaps because they are primary??

I guess some schools more prepared than others.

I’ve now had a tweet/text/email for different subjects asking me to go visit links. It’s just so confusing.

We are using ‘show my homework’ to set all tasks, but we were all a bit too enthusiastic and the kids had too much to do. We are now moving to project based work, and each subject will set a two week long project to be completed when the student wants ( rather than individual lessons on set dates).

It’s a steep learning curve and we’ll probably tweak it a few times before we get it right.

howrudeforme · 19/04/2020 19:48

All sounds good.

Lucky dc is not year 10 and above. Just have to keep calm and do our best.

Thank you for your experiences.
