What will they do with GCSE and A level papers?

Assuming the exam boards had already printed all the exam papers for GCSE and A level exams this summer before the pandemic began, what will they do with them now that exams are off?

Will they keep them for next summer or dispose of them and re write new papers for next year?

Dunno. Maybe use them in part for the promised resits.

Next year’s papers will already be written.

SeasonFinale · 16/04/2020 12:51

I am assuming they will print off some stickers to cover the dates and use them for the autumn exams.

koshkatt · 16/04/2020 12:53

Use them for any pupils who wish to sit their exam in the Autumn term.

fourpeasinapod · 16/04/2020 14:20

Ohh, I wonder will they have to wait until August 2021 for the results of the autumn exams then? @SeasonFinale @koshkatt

No. Results for autumn exams come out in January.

fourpeasinapod · 16/04/2020 14:31

I didn’t know autumn exams were a thing, I thought this was just a one off

Do you think they may need to rewrite next year's exams?

fourpeasinapod · 16/04/2020 14:36

@ineedaholidaynow I don’t know, that’s why I was asking.

Maybe they do need to re write them. Obviously it would make sense if they just re used this years cohort of papers which I’m sure as other people have said, they will

My dil works at a printing press that did this years exam papers.
They are currently putting stickers over the dates by hand so they can be used in November if needed.

fourpeasinapod · 16/04/2020 14:39

Goodness @ihatethecold that will take a lot of people.

I’m wondering why they need to do that though. Can they not just give out the papers in autumn with May/June dates on them. What difference does it make

That’s what she thinks but she obviously has to do what is asked of her.
I don’t think it’s all the papers

OneHippoOnThePhone · 17/04/2020 20:56

Wow. Did she have to swear on something that she wouldn’t peak and tell people what the questions are?

MarchingFrogs · 18/04/2020 08:12

Wouldn't (the content of) this summer's papers normally be released online at some point in the exam boards' secure areas for teachers to use as mocks? So presumably that would happen as usual if the papers really are going to be used in the autumn exams and not kept for next summer? Or schools could be allowed to have actual paper versions as a one-off (rather than printing off their own) if relatively few had been used in the autumn?

ihatethecold · 18/04/2020 08:29

Onehippo. She isn’t allowed her mobile phone when she works.

My dd was due to do her GCSEs this summer but alas I wasn’t given any insider info.
