Churchers Colllege

Hi!

I was hoping to gain insight into where majority of children come from who attend Churchers College in Liphook. We are looking at living in Farnham but are worried if our children went to Churchers, they would not be living near their friends, and sports matches could be a long travel.

Thank you in advance

We have friends whose children went to Churchers. They live near Petersfield and I think most are reasonably local but the mother certainly moaned about parties and events in Farnham area.

Churchers has very strong competition locally, so I think does spread its catchment a bit further afield.

CherryPavlova · 07/04/2020 20:59

Churchers isn’t in Liphook. It’s Petersfield.

charts3573 · 07/04/2020 21:31

Thank you for your reply.

Yes the senior school is Petersfield, the junior school is Liphook. We have three children so they would all be spread out! Good to know Farnham would be well serviced. Unfortunately it seems that Farnham isnt well serviced for Private schools 11+ without having to travel a distance.

It might be worth having look towards Wellington and Eagle House. Quite quick from Farnham. It used to take me as long to get to Farnham from near Petersfield as from Petersfield to Crowthorne.

CherryPavlova · 07/04/2020 22:22

Or RGS?

MotherFeeder · 08/04/2020 09:52

Hi, I believe Churchers is very selective. They only take children on certain year groups and children are tested to ensure they meet their standards and get weeded out.

Have you looked at Frenshem Heights as an option? It's not a traditional school like Churchers (school uniform etc) but I believe their head is fantastic and previously from Wellington

charts3573 · 08/04/2020 11:17

Hello, yes I did know about Frensham Heights and have heard very good things about it.

We are ok with the selective side of things, she has been accepted by Tormead and farnborough hill from the entrance examinations. We turned down Tormead due to the amount of time it takes to get there in the morning from Farnham (it’s also my old school so I know from experience what a nightmare that journey is). She is enrolled at farnborough hill but I have concerns over the single sex (we have two other boys and I’d love it for ease, to have them all in one school!!!).

We had looked at moving nearer to London for commute purposes and schooling but have since decided against this! They say you should follow your gut on schools but I find it very difficult!!

Hi OP, when Churchers came to our prep school for an open evening they had a map showing where the pupils lived (dots/numbers, not names!). We are about 6 miles north of Guildford and there were virtually no pupils from our area at all but probably a few more from Farnham but most from memory lived up and down the A3/train line. If you ask the admissions team they may be able to send you the document.

MotherFeeder · 08/04/2020 11:39

Tormead is an excellent school.

Per @Gu24Mum maybe ask the school how many in her year group will be from Farnham?

What is your gut instinct that you are finding difficult?

GU24Mum · 08/04/2020 11:43

I think the train connections from Farnham to Guildford are much better than they were up to a year ago so Tormead might not be so difficult logistically now?

charts3573 · 08/04/2020 17:42

Yes I did see the train line now goes direct. That’s great!
However Tormead just didn’t fit well for us so that one is a definite no. She is currently enrolled at farnborough hill. I worry when the boys goes to secondary school there could be quite a commute involved for me!! Having to pick up one from one town and then the boys from another school, should they be doing after school clubs.

Maybe I cross that bridge in a couple of years time but seems silly not to think about it at the moment. Wellington college isn’t for us, not keen on a boarding school or the amount for the fees!

Do you know your boys will go to different schools to your daughter?

In my experience I have found that you don't really know a school until your child is in the system. What you think a school is like and what it is/ whether your child fits their mold etc is often very different.

I live this side and we are spoilt for great independant schools.

zamumuk · 24/01/2021 08:14

HI OP, what did you decide in the end? We are moving out from London and also very keen on Churchers. Thank you !

charts3573 · 04/03/2021 16:09

zamumuk we went with Farnborough Hill in the end. However she hasn't enjoyed it since day dot and we are considering moving her to Churchers. She has really missed the balance a co-ed system offers.

What have you decided or are you still in the throws of it all?!

duchessa · 27/08/2021 05:37

@charts3573 did you move your DD to Churchers? Also looking to move to Farnham and hoping for a great senior co-ed (Frensham Heights isn't a fit for us, but Churchers looks fantastic!

charts3573 · 27/08/2021 06:44

Hi duchessa, yes we have moved her. She is starting in September and really looking forward to it. So far I have been impressed with their communication etc. I feel it will be a much better fit for her. Good luck with it all, it’s not an easy decision but I can say I think it’s a fab school.
