With online schooling for the rest of the academic year, a teen birthday coming up very soon I was thinking of buying a laptop. My DD is using her phone, I need the computer so need to try get her something suitable. Could you give me reasonable suggestions that your teens have, and are appropriate for school work etc.

My teens have cheap chrome books - absolutely fine for online learning and writing essays.

Thank you nourish, is there a specific brand for that?

I'll check. Honestly I thought i needed to spend loads but they both (a level and year 8) use them for homework with no issues.

ASU's Chrome

Apparently everything is cloud based so you don't store things and you can't put office on them? But they still write essays.

I need one too. Dh's is old but solid. My new work gave me a HP which seems very slow - Ds1 said it was a cheap poor one!

DD2 has an Acer touchscreen chromebook, but I got it 2nd hand on Facebook. It does exactly what she needs for school. Its only got 2GB RAM, so it can't do games, etc., well, which is a good thing.

Open office replaces Microsoft office and everything uploads to the cloud.

Same as above, bought when this started and so far brilliant. Not suitable for storing on as others have said. Mine both work via Google classroom. Can download communication apps etc so good for that too.

Acer chromebook. I have had mine 6 years. Love it. Simple, virus free, updates in seconds, fast to log on, cloud storage. Use it for internet research and I can write documents using google docs/sheets.

My children share an Acer chromebook (about £300) but also have desktop gaming computers.

All school work is being done on google classrooms. Ds1 takes photos of his work on his phone using google drive, the plus button and "scan" this coverts the pic into a pdf to save. Very helpful.

This is the one I got for my kids. They each have one.

Our schools insist our kids have chrome books, just had to purchase one via the school at just over £400, there are cheaper ones but ours includes all the insurance and a few extras.
