What strategies do you use for vocab building?

Lots of discussion. Looking at factual tv programmes. Reading. Ask DC to do some free writing. A letter to grandparents for example. Look at the words used and then discuss meaning and alternatives. What words could have been used instead? Buy a Thesaurus and get started looking at alternative words! Also talk to each other.
