I'm horrified at the government's refusal to close the schools and the way they are currently treating the teachers. Can't discuss on FB as we have government workers in the family. But so upset at the whole situation. They are actively encouraging people to visit pubs etc. There has been nothing on this in the media outside of the island.
It's dreadful, they are so cavalier about the whole thing.

There are in the earlier stages with 0 cases and have recommended limiting your travel and self isolation etc and being vigilant. They are clearly not encouraging people to visit pubs and travel?

The Chief Minister himself has encouraged people to carry on visiting pubs etc as supporting the economy is important. There is no ban on large gatherings. They have tested 50 out of 81000 people, who knows the actual rate of infection. We had the chance to get ahead of this in such a small community, but they have done very little.

Anyone arriving on the island is to isolate for 14 days, it's not enforced, coach loads of elderly (selfish) tourists have still been visiting.

Our GCSEs are still going ahead asfaik, students are upset and teachers are at breaking point. The government doesn't give a damn about the young people and teaching staff on the island. Our school is over subscribed and over crowded, the government is advising keeping 2m away from other people, but children are shoulder to shoulder in corridors. Pregnant teachers have been told to practise good classroom management and keep 2m away from the pupils.

For once I'd actually like The Mail to pick up on this.

Anyone arriving must self isolate whether infected or not

There is advice for the old and pregnant ladies about being careful.
The TT has been cancelled and also elections
There is info on the radio sites and Government sites.
They haven't banned gatherings yet but with 2 cases are likely to.

Perhaps you are being selective in what you are reading?

All my family live on the island, I grew up there. I understand that there are five confirmed cases which is a big increase - the island should have closed its borders when it had the chance - it’s terrible over here. I get the impression that the politicians there are out of their depth and don’t understand the seriousness. I believe one of the confirmed cases is a teacher at a primary school, that does not bode well.
