Norwood School vs Kingsdale

So... National Offer Day has passed.
We didn't get our first choice Kingsdale (we live 5 min away) but ended up with Norwood School. DS was very keen on Kingsdale as he was hoping he could go with his friends from primary. Said friends didn't get in or will go for independent options now. DH is very keen to get us on the Kingsdale waiting list but I wonder if Norwood isn't the better fit for DS anyway. He's quirky, sensitive, bright and dyslexic and has gotten one of the drama bursary places at Norwood.
I would love to hear from parents of Norwood and/or Kingsdale children about their experience with those schools and what they think we should do. Try to move heaven and earth to get into Kingsdale or happily settle with Norwood??? Grateful for any thoughts and advice, thanks!

Hi my daughter got accepted into kingsdale as her second choice and 3 months later has been offered a place to Norwood school, Norwood was first choice btw. I'm just in a confused state of mind about what to do. My child has moderate dyslexia and dyspraxia,so she struggles academically but is very bright at the same time. Norwood is offering all the things she loves like art, dance, drama and music, plus all her friends are going. Kingsdale is an amazing opportunity but doesn't seem as welcoming as Norwood plus help with her dyslexia hasn't been reassured when asked and to me it doesn't Have a warm feeling as Norwood has, plus I don't want her struggling with work either. Just need advice that if I turn kingsdale dwn would that be a stupid decision.

Hi. You'd probably be better off starting your own thread as this one is quite old and your reply might get missed. Fwiw, I would always trust your gut on this. Especially if there are SEN issues. If you think Norwood would suit your daughter better than go for it. The right school is a very personal choice.

Hi, I'm the original poster. My (moderately dyslexic and dyspraxic) son is about to finish Year 8 at Norwood. He has truly blossomed there and we couldn't be happier. I still often think how glad I am he didn't get into our first choice Kingsdale at the time. We haven't looked back, quite the opposite!
I agree with the previous poster though, the right school is a highly personal and individual choice. Listen to your gut. Talk to people from both schools, ideally with kids who are similar to your daughter. Trust yourself to make the right decision. Good luck!
