My son has a 13 plus offer to join Merchant Taylors, Northwood. I'd like to hear any experiences of the school. Thanks.

Thanks JMG1234, can I ask how MTS keep parents informed about how their boys are doing? School report, parents evening (how often?)...

I'd rather not get into any ethnicity discussion other than to say I don't think there's a dominance of any one ethnic group; there's a complete mix of kids.

Re feedback from school. There are grades by subject every half-term then a detailed school report (trying to remember but I think twice a year at least). This can be quite lengthy - up to a page of A4 per subject. There's a parents' evening once a year. Grades have an effort and attainment mark. The boys go through every grades sheet with their tutor and set targets.

On the odd occasion that I've emailed teachers with queries, they've all replied to my email quickly and have been helpful in providing additional information.

It is a friendly, down-to-earth school. My son loves it there, partly as there is so much to do (as I'm sure there is at many schools).

You can use this link to follow the school's weekly newsletter and see that boys come from all backgrounds. Their academic results have enjoyed an upward trajectory which means they select beyond local demographics.
