Year 9 - would you contact school?

DS came home yesterday and said he'd been pushed (in a queue at lunchtime) into another child. The second boy grabbed ds in a head lock and threw him to the ground.

AIB to contact school and ask what went on? Teachers were present and didn't do much.

Not at all. Call them and ask for the other kids to be punished.

Boys ‘roughhousing’ in Y9 is pretty common and when picked up on it they will both insist it’s fine and they’re just messing around.

If your DS has a different story and he is being picked on or bullied then please do contact the school to make them aware.

Is your son hurt? Was this a one off or part of a pattern of the other child picking on him? Does he want you to go to school?

Unless this is a pattern of bullying, it's highly likely that going into school may cause more harm than good.

Does he know these other lads? Was there jostling and messing about first or was it as described? I would check first.
Throwing someone to the floor isn’t ok. That I would contact school about.

I would email form tutor...

Was it random rough-housing in the wrong place at wrong time, or was it targeted?

Targeted = can't let it go.

All sorted, thanks. School have dealt with it. It was a one-off. No bullying. Just an unacceptable reaction.

Tenlittlecygnets me too. My son was grabbed and dragged to the floor in school. Just once. But it wasn’t acceptable. And school followed it up and dealt with it.

Very true OP. If it had been roughhousing that perhaps went a bit too far I'd let it go but not if he accidentally jostled someone and was thrown to the floor.
