As a charity we aim to “promote the advancement of education” for all, including a programme of lectures for young people. Our programme is designed to excite the interest of sixth form and higher education students, present an intellectual challenge and perhaps provide new ideas for career paths. The YP lectures this year all take place in the Manchester Conference Centre (“The Pendulum” on Sackville Street). Talks start at 7 p.m. and last 50¬-60 minutes, allowing 20 minutes for questions.

From about 6.30 p.m., students and their parents/teachers attending the YP events are served free pizza, and a choice of tea, coffee or fruit juice. This can be an opportunity for informal discussions with the speaker, Lit & Phil members and students and teachers from other schools and colleges. The events are timely for any university entrance interviews. However, they are also designed to provide for a general audience (including members of the Lit & Phil who attend alongside the student audience).

Our next event 'The Internet of Things' takes place on Tuesday 4th February. Please see our website for further information: manlitphil.ac.uk
