SPGS Question

Hi all,

Does anyone know if SPGS offers academic scholarships (not bursaries)? There doesn't seem to be any mention of them on the website but I am sure I have heard of them being given.

No, they used to (years ago) but at Y7 entry now they don’t exist, though they do have music scholarships (spgs.org/admissions/entry-at-11/scholarships/). From what I’ve heard, the school prefers to put money into bursaries.

Thanks, @HighRopes! I thought they had something called a High Mistress' Award that was the equivalent of an academic scholarship but I must have got the wrong end of the stick (not for the first time!).

If they have a High Mistress’ Award, I haven’t heard of it. I do know they used to do scholarships (years ago) so possibly that’s what they were called back then. Are you applying this year?

Not this year (DD is Year 5) - we are thinking about it for next year though.

Why would you want a scholarship and not a bursary? Simply for the prestige? If you can afford the fees they will make you cough up.

It's not about "wanting" either. I'm just researching potential future schools, noted that there wasn't anything on the website about them when I thought I'd been told that they offered them and was just curious.

There is a high mistress award based on 11+ exam results but is honourary as opposed to monetary. Music scholarships have some money off ~£1600pa for full and ~£800 for exhibitions, the total of the two pa is around 4-5.

Thanks @pasternak - good to know.
