Thread 2

Thread 1 Year 10

At the end of last thread there was a bit of talk on prom dresses ( recommend Fonthill Rd in London if you can get there) by @proggymat and @crazycrofter

@TigerMum had a query regarding moving to foundation level at this stage.

Sorry peeps thread progressed without me noticing so none can reply to your queries!

I’m not fluent in French at all but can remember it from GCSE OK. In Spanish all I can say is “my name is” and count to 10Grin

MirandaWest · 12/02/2020 16:23

Had DSs progress review earlier on this afternoon. Then there’s a revision session for parents at 5:30. Children had a revision skills morning and DS said the woman running it was good so I will go along hopefully.

clary · 12/02/2020 16:56

Proggymat yes apparently. I no longer work I'm a school so I don't know details tho

ProggyMat · 12/02/2020 18:52

@clary
I’ve read up on the Ofqual stuff and had an interesting chat with DDs French teacher whom also teaches German.
Whilst it appears the ‘adjustments’ will be in Summer 2020, its still not clear if this years cohort will have a ‘less demanding Listening and Reading paper’ or if the ‘marking ‘will be more forgiving in these elements of the MFL GCSE’s
So, as we all appear to be ‘in the dark ‘
I guess we are all stuck with ‘listen carefully, etc.

clary · 12/02/2020 22:36

ah interesting. I must say I assumed it would all be a bit late to start making the exams easier, so they would either a) lower the grade boundaries or b) be a bit easier going on marking. a) is much easier of the two but both possible.

If I were teaching yr 11 (well, I am, but I mean a class at school) I would not mention this and let it be a nice surprise if what they thought would be a dodgy 4 turned into a 5. It will actually make more difference at the higher end, so those thinking of A level MFL.

I found this great revision activity on Twitter :

Great for so many subjects!

ProggyMat · 13/02/2020 06:56

DDs teacher has said to stick with working towards last years grade boundaries,

MirandaWest · 13/02/2020 08:39

Revision skills session at DS's school was quite useful and then when I got back home DS said that when I help him with school things he does better so he and I then did Biology. It is nice to know he feels I am useful but I feel I am going to be glad when he's finished Grin

PostNotInHaste · 13/02/2020 10:11

Do other people not have an exam timetable?

EwwSprouts · 13/02/2020 10:17

No exam timetable here yet. I know we can go searching online ourselves but school do issue them so waiting.

ealingwestmum · 13/02/2020 10:20

We haven’t had one issued formally yet Post. I obtained V.1 from the parents’ portal but it didn’t include the assessment stuff. I’m guessing around after half term we’ll have something official sent out.

PostNotInHaste · 13/02/2020 10:35

Thanks, I will quit muttering under my breath about it then!

crazycrofter · 13/02/2020 10:46

We have an exam timetable!

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 13/02/2020 11:03

We have had the school issue a timetable now.

ChristopherTracy · 13/02/2020 11:15

No timetable for us yet - just the statement form to check name and DOB correct.

ProggyMat · 13/02/2020 11:28

No timetable 'ere either-just the GCSE enteries form.

MirandaWest · 13/02/2020 11:47

There's a timetable on the school website although I don't think they've been given it.

We haven't had an entries form or at least DS hasn't mentioned it. But as they're waiting until after the mocks after half term to decide on levels and whether people are entered for triple or double science etc that's probably why.

Seeline · 13/02/2020 12:17

We had a preliminary timetable in about November, but not sure how accurate it is. No entry forms yet either.

RedskyAtnight · 13/02/2020 12:24

We had ours formally sent out by school last week. But I'd already been on the exam board websites and worked it out :)

Miranda the exam timetable won't vary depending on whether higher/foundation or combined/triple. The exams are at the same time! (though shorter if you are taking combined rather than triple sciences).

Wheresthebeach · 13/02/2020 12:33

Timetable was up on parent portal in October, but it's not been updated since so its not accurate.

School isn't exactly great with admin so hoping it gets updated and sent out soon!

MirandaWest · 13/02/2020 13:14

That’s true RedSky. But I suppose they haven’t filled in forms as some decisions not made yet.

TerfTerf · 13/02/2020 16:56

Hello! I found you again Grin

I found out all our GCSE and A level timetable from the board websites in October. School put the provisional GCSE timetable plus lots of revision tips and exam procedures on their Facebook page two weeks ago but didn't actually send it to anyone as well. When asked why, they said it wasn't confirmed yet and the kids would get their own timetable at the END OF TERM! I despair and can't wait for him to leave. 18 weeks tomorrow is the last exam for both boys SmileSmileSmile

Heifer · 13/02/2020 19:53

We received DDs exam timetable this week, although haven't had any entrance forms to sign like some of you...
Today received a report as Mock results are now all in.

AndwhenyougetthereFoffsomemore · 13/02/2020 20:03

We had a timetable a week or so ago ... Eng Lit unusually early for us this year apparently ... not one of ds's favourites so I can't decide if it's good to have it early ... or if it's a bad thing as there's less revision time. Obv nothing I can do about it anyway, either way!!

Piggywaspushed · 13/02/2020 20:07

Eng Lit is always one of the first .... (stupidly)
