Anyone knows Longridge High School A Maths and Computing College?

I would appreciate some opinions about this school if anyone has any experience or has heard anything. I know it is 'requiring improvement' and it is an ongoing issue for a few years now, however apparently some staff changes taken place, so was hoping that maybe it is not as bad as it seems to be.. Anything would be helpful. Thank you.

Hi Chatty - I know friends whose children are there and I hear good things. We were impressed at this year's open evening although I did note that the maths grades aren't brilliant. My DH has had to visit a couple of times recently (if I say why it'll out me, sorry, but he isn't involved in education) and he was always come home and commented on the politeness of the pupils and staff and how the Head has always been around.

I would say it's on the up and all schools go through good and bad times but I suppose it depends on your specific situation and questions? For info, my DS won't be going next Sept as he's got into grammar but I certainly wouldn't have dismissed it out of hand. Have you also considered St Cecilia's which has got excellent reports and is doing really well?

I have considered St Cecilia's school yes, the Longridge High School I took into account because of Maths and Computing, but having gone through many reports recently, 'requires improvement' really worries me, especially when the quality of teaching is mentioned to not be as good as it should as this can result in children's grades and inability to do well at GCSEs.

Do not judge a school by its OFSTED rating. I can’t believe parents still give these reports any credit!
I know this school well. It is a great school. We chose it over the grammar school option and do not regret that choice at all. We have been very happy on the whole and our kids have thrived. Obviously not the most suitable school for everyone but spot on for us!

I went there and am from the area.

When I was there twenty years ago it was a solidly middle class comp with average results. They didn’t particularly push students to do anything other than what was necessary and their behaviour policies relied on having mostly interested parents who raised their children a certain way and instilled solidly middle class values. It worked for them, and they mooched a long with very low staff turnover for the next decade. Then, came Gove’s reforms and changes to the way progress was measured and they didn’t change quick enough, so fell behind.

It’s still a good place to be, with nice students and staff, and they are addressing the “moving with the times” issues. I’d have no problem sending my children there :)

I’m not sure you’d get in to St. C’s unless you are RC. Always used to be the case.
