When does your child do their homework?

Hi all! My son has got into the habit of doing his homework after dinner, from around 7pm till 9pm. Is this normal? When does your son or daughter typically do their homework? He's in his GCSE year.

Stays at school for homework club three nights a week and fits it in round sports etc on other evenings, can be quite late.

My two dud theirsvin the bus coming home from school.
We had massive rows about it but both got grear grades andthe careers they wanted. They are 20 and 23 now.
It used to cause rows and stress for me at the time though!

DD does hers between 7 and 9 as apparently that's when she feels most productive. She's in year 10 so I leave her to it now as forcing her to do it earlier would be counterproductive. DS is in year 8 and crap at organising himself so I insist he does something at 6.30 every night.

wheresmymillionaire · 22/11/2019 14:25

not the same, I know, but my dc are both at boarding school and the routine at their schools are dc2- prep is from 4.30 - 6.30pm, dc2- 7.30-9.00pm

DD is in y10. She does h/w from around 4:15 (gets home 3:20ish), for a max of 1 hour. Any later and she gets more and more tired.

RedskyToNight · 22/11/2019 14:35

As the mood takes them.
They both tend to leave a lot to the weekend. DD is taking GCSE Art and will generally spend a chunk of an evening focused on "something arty".

DD fits it round her extra curricular activities after school 3 times a week, so sometimes straight after (4.30 ish) until she goes dancing, then eats and then finishes anything outstanding from about 8 to 930ish. Usually has several hours at the weekend too. Y 11.

DS Y13, usually once we've gone to bed at about 10 (really not my choice....)

We have a very early dinner - often about 4:30 and they do it after that. At weekends, DC1, can be a bit slow to get going and usually finishes about 9pm, which I don't like because if I have to help with something, it's too late for me. I can't really complain though because DC1 has amazing grades and works v hard.

My son is in Year 11 and is going to revision sessions most days before and after school meaning he's having lessons from 8.30 am til 4pm. He doesn't get home til almost 5pm. He's had enough of school work when he gets home so chooses to do homework or further revision after dinner, at some point between 6pm and 10pm depending on how much there is. If it's not due in til the following week, he sometimes leaves it until the weekend.

StanleySteamer · 23/11/2019 17:02

7 pm to 9 pm sounds absolutely fine, if necessary, as he gets closer to his exams, he could do an hour earlier to bring it up to three. Does he do any at weekends?

Cuddlysnowleopard · 23/11/2019 19:33

DS1 is year 11. He works around his sports clubs, but 7pm to 9pm (or 10pm) sounds fairly typical for him too.
