Just wanted to add my comments about HSW since my son has been at the school and is now in year 8. He applied for other schools and got in to them but his firm favourite was HSW. He loves the daily school life, enjoys a full on sports / fitness programme and the varied enrichment programme available. It is a long day but he enjoys the freedom of no homework on the weekend / holidays so he can get some rest and recharge his batteries for the coming week / term. Chatsworth who took over the school have totally revitalised the school with a new team of teachers. We were at my son's parents evening yesterday and were so impressed with the enthusiasm, commitment and drive from the teachers. My son has met a great group of friends and formed a strong bond with his peers. He is hoping the rumour of a sixth form is true as he would definitely want to stay on. I hope this helps give a flavour of what HSW is like now and looks to be building a strong future and going from strength to strength.

My son in Year 9 is very happy at HSW too. He has excellent teachers who really care about his progress. He also loves all the sport and fitness training. He has a great group of friends and seems to be growing in confidence all the time.

I know this is a bit old, but can anyone tell me what the boy : girl ratio is ? I've heard it's very boy heavy.

blackberryandapple · 26/02/2020 13:45

You may have found the answer by now but I think it's around 50/50 in Y7. Varies a bit in other years.

KaliforniaDreamz · 29/02/2020 14:05

IS it better now it's been taken over?

blackberryandapple · 29/02/2020 15:42

Things seem to be good there. My son is v happy and doing really well. We have just had Y9 GCSE options evening and we were v pleased with the flexibility on subject choices and the personal approach. Teachers were all enthusiastic and gave us a lot of good advice. Small class sizes definitely a plus point for GCSEs.

That's good to hear blackberry
great to have a softer option compated to the frantic selectives available.

blackberryandapple · 01/03/2020 08:19

Yes and it is definitely stretching for the most academic as well as supportive for those who find things harder. It's ambitious but not pressured.

that is good to hear

Hi,

I wanted to ask about the Hall School to the present parents. How is it now? My DC is in year 8 and being bullied at his posh boarding school. We would like to have DC in a local school but there is only Hall nearby that he got a place at. King's is a no go.

Should I look further afield, or send him to the Hall School? It would be a disaster if we change and walk into another toxic environment. We need good pastoral care and nice, tolerant teachers, easy going class mates.

There has been really mixed messages from the parents who left after Chatsworth (?) bought it..
Any comments from parents at Hall would be really appreciated.
Thank you!

Terribly sorry to hear your DS is being bullied. Have you considered Ibstock, Harodian, KGS ?

getafix55 · 04/01/2021 17:17

Hi,
Thank you, they are all full. We had a place at Harrodian at 11plus, only picked the boarding school over it for flexi boarding. Seems silly now. We asked but they said no places..

tigertaletelling · 02/02/2023 11:25

Hi @getafix55 I hope things are much better for your son now. Did you move him to The Hall?
feel free to PM if you’d rather.

getafix55 · 03/02/2023 20:25

Hi,

Yes, we did. They were very good. The school is small and the teachers are good. It is a personal choice. If your child has SEN needs, they are used to dealing with it, and much better at managing bullying.
