Any current Wychwood School (Oxford) parents here?

I'm just wondering what the girls are like in general - dd is not a queen bee type at all - she's sweet and earnest, but not one of the "cool girls".

She likes individual sports, reading, her xbox, kooky card games (and inventing them!) and will quite happily play lego with her little sister. She would be quite lonely in a class full of cool girls, posing and talking about appearances and Instagram.

Also, what are the selection criteria? What would it be that could cause her NOT to get in? She is academically capable but not outstanding, although she was "Exceeding Expectations" for English, coding and science in Y5.

In every regard, the Wychwood seems like a great match for her.

HI.

Wychwood is not really a makeup and posing type of school. The girls in general are very supportive to each other. I would be lying if I said there was no spiteful behaviour at all, but I really don't think it is the norm. Your dd sounds like a good fit.
Entrance wise, I really don't know. Academically it spans from Oxbridge to girls who struggle. I think the Head really tries to offer places to the girls who would benefit and/or fit well into the school. My dd is academically average on the whole and has thrived there. I love the school!
Have you been round it and met the head?

That's great to hear such a positive report - thank you. DD and I went to see it 2 weeks ago and loved it. The head seemed lovely too, although I had purposely NOT sold the school to dd before we went, but then the head asked her why she wanted to come to the school, which rather put the poor lamb on the spot! She answered well though (although if she had known about the tree that would definitely be her answer!).

We were blown away by how kind and interested all the teachers were, especially biology and computers.
