After Ardvreck?

We've still got a while but I've started thinking about senior schools for ds1, who is currently at Ardvreck, and nowhere that I've looked at seems to live up to his current school.

I really liked the sound of gordonstoun at first but the more I looked into it the less appealing it looked.
Strathallan looks nice enough but nothing about is really standing out for me.

I'd ideally like it to be close enough for him to be a day pupil or flexi board but I'd consider full boarding if the school was just right and ds is up for it.

Any suggestions?

Glenalmond? Same general area and their extra-curricular facilities are excellent.

Glenalmond looks lovely. I'll definitely look further into that.

We're very into sailing as a family, which is a big part of the reason I was initially so interested in gordonstoun.
Are there any other schools with a similar emphasis on sailing as an extra curricular?

Sedbergh has good sailing and perfect for an Ardvreckian!

To be honest, I thought just about everyone graduated from Ardvrek to Glenalmond if they wanted to stay local and be a day pupil so I'm surprised you hadn't considered it. Sailing is a sport available at Glenalmond.

Hi there I’m coming into this thread a bit late but just adding a few words re your initial thought of Gordonstoun and why it became less appealing. My DD is currently a day pupil and has been for the past 5 years. I can only say she is blossoming at Gordonstoun where she is happy and secure. The staff are extremely dedicated and go out of their way to ensure each child makes the most of the opportunities available....taking part in outdoor activities where they are challenged and gently encouraged to believe in themselves or through an academic curriculum backed up by accessible caring staff.

The royal connection did not interest us. We wanted an environment surrounded by fresh air, with an international perspective where our DD interacts with students locally and abroad with ease. We want her to do the best she can in exams but more than that we want her to be kind, respectful, inclusive and resilient. Yes Gordonstoun will take them out of the classroom, not just sailing but on expeditions kayaking or in the mountains...and thank goodness for that
