How safe is it to walk to Pates Grammar?

My son has an offer from Pates Grammar, which took us by surprise to be honest. So, I hadn't fully researched travel options. Not being from Cheltenham, he will have to commute. I have read that Hester's Way is perhaps the less salubrious part of the town. I was looking for opinions on how safe it is considered for him (v. small for his age) to walk from GCHQ to the school. Is there a cohort of kids commuting from Gloucester on the 94? Thanks.

It is safe. There are hundreds of kids commuting daily. They walk past GCHQ, past the college and on to Pates. It is not the nicest of areas in Cheltenham, but it is fine - how many news articles can you find about kids being attacked/run over in that area... zero.

Would be more worried about them buying a daily Greggs on the way home... as most students seem to be queueing out the door before they get the bus.

It's not the nicest area but he will be fine! It's really not that far and there will be lots of Pates children who walk as well.

Hesters way is minging, but as long as he avoids the dodgy parks then he'll be fine. We never had any grief other than the obligatory 'geek' shouts from the kids from other comps 😁

Thank you everyone. Putting my mind a bit more at ease!
