Hi all
Just wondering how the other boys did in the QE exam. My son got 237 and heard that the results were considerable lower.

Big discussion on the elevenplusexams forum - look in the talk bit - SW Herts/N London.

The results are standardised so I don't think there's any such thing as "lower"

Avybat123 · 05/10/2019 17:22

Standardisation is the process which regards the age of the person and applies a change to the marks of the child. It has not got anything to do whether the results are low or not as the score when mentioned by a person is usually standardised. The statement results were low considers a trend of scores which can usually depict a message about the cutoff. Hence please answer if you have any valuable info otherwise don’t.

I think I'm entitled to answer any thread I like. Whatever the raws scores the spread will be the same as it's on a bell shaped curve. If there are a lot of applicants there will be more on every score so yes, the pass mark may be higher.
There's no need to be rude.

Mustbetimeforachange · 05/10/2019 17:59

And no-one currently has any info other than their son's score.

Applepieco · 05/10/2019 19:51

I don’t think the message that the results were considerably lower is what I’m hearing. And yes, mustbetimeforachange is correct, the higher the number of applicants (and it’s very high this year) there will be more candidates on every score. The number of boys who actually put the school high up on the CAF will be a big decider on the final cut off score and nobody can know this until March.

Avybat123 · 05/10/2019 20:06

Sorry for sounding rude. However this year the applicant this year were 200 less than last.

Could you point me to where you were given that information? My understanding is that, at this point of the process, they only give an in excess of figure?

Nobody knows yet how many applicants will put QE down as a choice. All you know is the approximate number that sat the test (slightly up on last year) and your score. The elevenplusexams forum tells you the historic data re; cut off scores on allocations day and by September entry.
