100 - 75 = 25 then 25+15 = 40
217350 is 115% of previous year , previous year is 100% therefore 217350 divided by 115 the multiply by 100

Thanks LIZS, god it must have been a bad week not to see that Confused

The second question 217350 is 115% of the previous year, so you'd need to do 100/115 x 217350 to get to 189000.

I'm surprised she didn't get any marks for working on the second part of the first one. Her method is correct, it's the previous calculation that's incorrect.

Business teacher here! I would've given a mark for the method. It is correct it's just the number that is wrong. Get DD to query with teacher, 1 mark could mean a grade boundary in the real test, however I wouldn't make a big deal out of it.

Definitely won't be making a fuss but she was showing me her tests from the first few weeks and she is trying so hard and was pleased with her mark 17/23, she has struggled a bit at school but seems to have really turned it around and rightly wants to know where she is going wrong.

I'm more embarrassed I didn't see it especially as I work in finance, the shame, although I've had the most awful week and I'm shattered so that's my excuse Grin
