A good book to share

DS is yr10 and DD is yr7. DS and me have been running our own little book club for a while where we read the same book and chat about it. This has been easy enough as I'll read anything so he chooses. DD has started secondary school and wants to join in. Can anyone suggest a good book that both might enjoy? She's a good reader so not worried about the reading level. Thinking possibly war or crime themed but open to any suggestions.
TIA

Not war, or crime, but how about Wonder by RJ Palacio? They may have seen the recent film.
Northern Lights by Phillip Pullman.

The Book Thief
Rule Britannia by Du Maurier
(DS did Wonder at school in yr7)

Judith Kerr's "Bombs on Aunt Dainty", which is a sequel to "When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit".

War Horse might lead to lots of discussion.

And any Agatha Christie Hercule Poirot or Miss Marple for murder.

Daughter of Time by Josephine Tey.

Both ds and dd2 (aged about 14yo and 10yo when they read it) loved it, and we had lots of discussions. It could be interesting if they do Princes in the Tower in history for ds as he will be extremely vocal that Richard didn't do it. Grin
