Sixth Forms - London

Gah! three days into term and DD is talking about wanting to change schools after GCSEs and not attend 6th form there. I don't even know where to start - her school is out of borough and has a 6th form so I think we won't get the push/info that the local year 7-11 secondaries give out. I don't know where to start looking. Not looking for recommendations just yet - just how does the process work? Is it up to us to the research or do you get the same sort of guidance as you get for primary and secondary?

We are in a similar position and it has been left to us to research it x

Is subscribing to the good schools guide worth it? There are so many options in London - I don't know where to start.

Look at what’s commutable
Look at results
Look at syllabus for chosen a levels - I’m already aware we might have to move dd for a level if she wants to do some subjects - the syllabus at her current school isn’t one she’d want to do!

My dds both went around other schools when they were in year 12 and looked at alternative sixth forms to the one they were in. I wasn't really involved tbh. They decided to stay in the end, but I think felt pretty well informed about the pros and cons of each school.

look at your area and decide how far you are willing to commute. then, look at the 6th forms in that area and compare results, before checking they offer the subjects your dd wants to do. make a note of the open days and attend them x

Too many options in London. I feel a spreadsheet coming on...
