Year7 disco - what to wear?

DD is going to Y7 welcome disco next week. What would be considered appropriate for this event? She is thinking of a sequin dress with tights - but not too sure...It’s a tricky thing - to strike a balance between looking not too “primary” and not too grown up. Please can I ask for some ideas ?

Also, do girls get their hair done for this event??

I think it really depends on the school. At my DDs inner London school they wouldn't be seen dead wearing that. Just a top and jeans. I know though that schools on the outskirt of London and around Essex that's pretty normal.

Maybe ask friends what they will be wearing? I'm sure it will range from jeans and T shirt (my dd) to posh party frock. I'd err on the jeans side myself, maybe with a pretty crop top? No don't have her hair done.

At ds14’s school for year 7 girls, it would be skinny jeans and nice top/t-shirt. Girls would not be seen dead in sparkly dresses and tights. They just had a few days away together and photos were posted:- skinny jeans, crop tops, t-shirts, branded hoodies and so on. The disco they had, there was not a dress in sight. This is the best performing catholic school in the area (a lot of money, combined with some free school meals). So I have no idea what school it makes it 🤷🏻‍♀️ And no don’t get her hair done, just let her straighten it or whatever she normally does, most girls here either straighten and leave, or curl the ends. But don’t make it look like she’s going to prom!

Skinny jeans and top here too (SW state school). Plus trainers. Hair probably had a brush Grin x

I would go with jeans and a nice top with hair down probably to be honest. plays safe

Will be so dependent on the demographic of the school. It was jeans or leggings and tops for my daughter's school, one or two in dresses but they looked out of place. One in heels. Year group about 120, single sex school. No make up, no hairdressers. London.

Jeans and a nice top here too. Unless it was a formal prom type event. Even then a sparkly dress would be out.

Vans/trainers, skinny jeans and boxy (cropped but not tummy showing cropped) t shirt.

And loose hair
