Black school bag for Secondary school - recommendations

DD starts Secondary School in September. She needs to have a black schoolbag preferably with no logos. The school do not have lockers so will need to have space for books + PE kit. Ideally I would like a separate water bottle holder on the side (after leaking episodes at Primary!).

Has anyone got any recommendations of what backpack to get?

Eastpack are study and logo is small. I got my son a jansport backpack but he refused it 🤨, it's very big and I ended up using it. He agreed on an under armour bag, we went for their most waterproof option. It is still going strong even though its regularly dumped on the playground. I would think you might struggle to find a bag to fit p.e kit and books/files as well. Most of the kids here tend to have a sports bag type thing for sports and another bag for books etc. Good luck for September 😊

DS1 has a plain black rucksack with side water bottle pocket from Mountain Warehouse.

Mine have Backcare backpacks www.johnlewis.com/backcare-backpack-large-black/p231628838. A wee bit pricey but really well designed and comfortable to carry with all the crap they need. DS1 has had his for four years now and is about to replace it finally, partly because he wants something more suitable for his year 11 persona. And partly because it's taken a real beating and is about to fall apart.

DD has chosen a plain vans bag for year 7. It does have a small logo though.

My dc take their PE stuff in a plastic bag. They cram it inside their school bag.

The Tesco near me has loads of plain black backpacks, might be worth a try.

I have one son who has just finished year 11 and one about to go into year 9, they have both had large laptop backpacks.

Padded, breathable fabric and lots of pockets, huge choice on Amazon lasted 2-3 years. They are water resistant but you can buy a bag cover which both of mine have to protect it when it rains. Lots of children have them.

Re fitting a PE kit in with all the books they need every day, no chance. Mine have to have football boots, shin pads and trainers as well as shorts, socks, indoor and outdoor tops. The amount of dirt just on their trainers is ridiculous and they don't allow them to shower.

Both mine had Bagbase messengers bags that they took on PE days with plastic bags for their footwear.

DD started yr 7 last september and started with a replica Black longchamp le pliage bag (whilst on holiday in turkey). This year she has asked for a rucksack so has a black Nike version (even comes with matching pencil case)

Sports direct have a few - dd's have no fear ones.

Our school
Says plain black no logos but the reality is as long of the logo isn't lairy then its's fine.

I can't see that a PE kit will fit with everything else though, I'd be campaigning for lockers, it isn't good for developing backs to carry heavy loads

Our school has lockers for PE kit so they don't have to lug it round.

Ds has a North Face which he using form the 3rd year running- it looks like new. Well worth the expense.

Following this with interest as I need to get DS a school backpack.

It doesn’t have to be black but I want something sturdy, as I know from DDs experience how heavy the bag can get at Secondary and a cheap bag just won’t last. DD has a back support one (with school logo) which she says is great as it takes some of the weight rather than it all being on the shoulders. However DSs school don’t have this option.

The John Lewis one looks good.

Also I don’t want to get him something too unfashionable - not bothered about it being branded just don’t want it to be something uncool....

We bought DD a Superdry Montana rucksack last year in their sale so not expensive. I've been really impressed as it's lasted really well and still looks good. It's well-made and pretty rugged with enough space for all her books and pencil cases.
