Uniform/blazer/ washing

My daughter starts secondary in September. We bought the full uniform and as usually I washed everything in the washing machine except the blazer. I have no idea what to do with it 🙄 It seems like very good quality, nice tick fabric and I don't want to ruin it considering the price. May be a silly question but how do you clean your child's blazer?

When ds had a wool blazer it was eiped down with a baby wipe each week and sent to the dry cleaners every half term. Now he has a polyester one it goes in the washing machine every few weeks.

DS's is taken to the dry cleaners once a term.

DD's heavy duty wool one, dry cleaned once a year in the summer . How is everyone's getting so dirty??

Quick wash, no heat setting, hung up on a hanger to dry as soon as it's finished in the machine.

What does the care label say?

I assume they don’t wear the wool ones all day, is it more like a coat.

DS’s one is the cheaper, thinner material one, so gets washed on a gentle cycle every half term, or when required. He has to wear his all the time at school unless they are given permission in really hot weather to take them off.

No, they had to wear them all day. One was very heavy wool, the other a wool mix so couldn't be maching washed.

ineedaholidaynow - Actually they pretty much do... they have raincoats to go over the top in the winter as well. If it is really hot they will take them off, but they have to have them with them all the time, and must wear them to and from school.

Green Tulips I should have done that - it says "hand wash" or "gentle wash cycle".

JudgeRindersMinder the blazer would obviously only needs cleaning once is dirty as it's an outer clothing. But I would normally wash everything that touches the skin before wearing it first - shirts, skirts, socks etc.

Gosh, people wash things before weraing them? I can undersand it with newborns (just about, I did it), but regular clothes? Do you wash a new jacket before wearing it? Or if you or your DH wears a suit to work do you clean that first? Mumsnet, as always, is another world.

Well, it's just my thing. I don't imply that everyone should do it.
Clothing that goes over other layer /jackets, jumpers, blazers/ I don't wash, but everything else I do, even if it's only on the refresh cycle.
The items have been in numerous warehouses, trucks, shop floor, people touched them, stepped them accidentally... Just think newly bought clothes are not exactly "clean"

What's it made out of? I wash my dcs' polyester one every half term in the delicate cycle with Woolite.

I have washed the Dc's new stuff too. Shirts are crispy and have fold lines, trousers are stiff and so are the blazers. Their blazers just go in at 40 degrees with no fab soft

I always wash school shirts before they’re worn too, the fabric seems to have some kind of a finish on them that needs washing out

I wouldn't wash it before wear. I get that you'd wash blouses as they can be stiff . My DD's blazer goes in the machine at the end of each half term on 30c. Comes out great, I shake it and hang it and it doesn't even need an iron.

Just a gentle 30 Deg wash. I always add a towel otherwise the machine seems to unbalance.

Normally, I'd be right there with you on that one, but must admit to washing items such as shirts and bedlinen in advance of the first use, for the reasons quoted by JudgeRindersMinder dementedpixie, I.e.the creases (shirts) and the 'dressing' (more the bedlinen). I find that the firmest 'packaging' creases are usually to be found in 'non-iron' shirts...

My mum always used to 'oversew' the buttons on new garments, as well, but my impression is that buttons on modern clothing are more securely attached than they used to be fifty-odd years ago, so that's one of her habits I've abandoned.

We have to go to the dry cleaner each half term. As DD wears a jumper and a short 7 der earth it she sweats a lot and all items are polycotton so it makes it even worse.

The blazer definitely smells, at the weekend it gets a decent airing outside.

I have to wash them on a weekly basis!!! And this is with changing into home clothes when they get home. I had been planning on washing every half term, sadly this was not to be. My kids are messy and get muddy or mucky just by looking at muck! Lol. Polyester material so washed easily.
