Hampton 10 plus

Hi all,

My DS2 is down to do the Hampton exam this November.

Would appreciate thoughts on preparation please.

He is working well above expected levels for his age according to his summer report.

I know the Maths is tough at Hampton. He is stronger at Maths than English so hoping that will help.

Any advice appreciated! Anyone else doing it?

We didn't do 10 plus with DS1, only DS2, so not sure what level to work to.

He is a very sporty boy, especially footie and tennis, as well as playing a brass instrument. I'm down to see the school in the Autumn, but would appreciate any thoughts on the school, as we don't know it that well.

@TWmum28 as far as I know, your DS will be automatically enrolled for 11+, just in case. BTW the leaflet kids got on the exam day says results will be out on 27th Nov. Don't know if they tell us before that. Keep the fingers crossed.

Yes DS was today too. No expectations on our part - will see how it goes. Feeling very positive about having got to this stage given it was his first external exam.
I think it was about 65 at this stage out of around 200 who sat the exam and then down to around 40 offers I believe.

We've been incredibly impressed by how efficient the school has been throughout the whole process.

Well done! It’s a brilliant school as my older son is there. Can I ask what the interview was like at 10+ as might be trying here next year for my next son. Was it just an informal chat or any type of challenge? Thanks.

Hello, for the 10+ Entrance Exam at Hampton School, is non-verbal reasoning tested also or is it just verbal reasoning? This is what they have at their website:

English Response & Reasoning (45 minutes)
Essay (30 minutes)
Mathematics (40 minutes)

Any help will be greatly appreciated

@Hi9879 , it's their own reasoning exam built in with the English paper, you can't prepare for it. They are looking for naturally bright all rounders equally strong in English and maths. Its best to approach the 10 plus as a practice for the following year. Last year a parent on MN had her ds reach the interview stage but not an offer - it's the worst of all worlds to explain to a dc as in you were fine academically but there preferred some of the dc more when they meet them and we have got to do this all over again next year!

Hi, this is an old thread, my ds is at the school but got in several years ago. I hope your ds got on ok in such difficult circumstances.

@Singingrain1223 sorry! He did his best, though managed to injure himself during the first half and ended up being seen by a medic. But disappointed he didn’t get extra time to make up for it, but I guess we’ll wait and see.

Anyone here want to share how they found this year’s 10+?

Hey, there're 2 other threads for the current 10+ in Hampton. My DS said the it went ok for him, nothing particularly hard.

@Ross11 sounds promising for your DS. Could u point me in the direction of the two threads? I only managed to find one of them?
