I'm posting this here as it impacts teachers, schools and students, especially anyone thinking of booking a short break.

There is a whole thread on AIBU.

Basically the early May bank holiday is being moved to the following Friday (8th May) to correspond with VE day celebrations/commemorations.

It will be interesting to see response of schools to this, many of whom will have already published INSET days etc, but also may have teachers who have booked long weekends. Will they go with the flow, or close on the Monday as well as the Friday, or what? They won't be able to please everyone...

I hadn't heard about this - thank you for posting

I hadn't heard of this either, don't think it can have been very well publicised.

This is also a big deal for those taking GCSE next year (my DS among them) for whom the 8th May would have been their last school day (exams start on the Monday). I know in theory it just shifts their week up, but feels "different " somehow starting exams after a 3 day weekend, rather than a normal one.

It was only announced on Friday. I don't suppose schools have done anything about it yet.
