Food Tech GCSE qq

DD is doing Food Tech. This week they had a three-hour lesson in which they prepped three dishes. Afterwards the teachers took pics of all dishes and marked them - but didn't taste any of the dishes!!

Is this standard, or odd? There was no formal chance for all dc to eat the meals they had just cooked, although DD had one dish for lunch. Wouldn't it be better for them all to sit down and eat afterwards and taste each other's dishes?

DD has picked food tech. Place marking!

My DD did hers a couple of months ago and no they didnt taste the dishes, just took photos. Dont know why but its probably for the best!

Interesting, peace!

But surely the whole point is that it's a life skill? There's no point dishes looking lovely if they don't taste good? And by tasting you can give feedback on e.g. seasoning.

Plus food waste... I hate to think of all that food going to waste.

Ds did this gcse last year and all the teachers tried the dishes, even teachers who were passing by the classroom.

For the practice lesson in Year v10, or for the actual GCSE in Year 11, lived?

Could it be hat time ran out. It always takes students absolutely ages to tidy up after food tech (and they are often late to other lessons as a consequence) that there was probably not enough time at the end. Ours take their dishes in Tupperware to have later or store in fridges to take home.

Actual GCSE in yr 11. I'll ask him if it was the same for the practice.

TeenTimesTwo · 08/06/2019 10:54

I hope they do taste it. DD's food so far always tastes delicious, but she hasn't got the finesse of presentation yet.

Justgivemesomepeace · 08/06/2019 11:24

Oh just had a thought- DDs isnt food tech gcse. She calls it that but its actually Hospitality and Catering and she gets a pass, merit or distinction so it might be different. Not sure what the qualification is.
