This afternoon a member of our SMT was having a rant to the students about attendance, along the lines of:
90% in a Maths exam is good.
But 90% attendance is not. 90% attendance is equivalent to ... bla bla bla ...

90% attendance when spread over 5 yrs at school is equivalent to one whole year off

Groan To make it even worse I think only about half of the staff realised, and just a few of the students.

A school year of 39 weeks is 273 days.
10% of this absent is 27.3 days.
Over 12 years at school this does indeed work out at 327 days, almost a whole year.

Interesting to look at it this way!
