Readyforsunshine

It really does make it all the more real when it’s their alevel preference. Dd needs a 7 in English lit, which is her best subject and should be achievable going on mocks and predicted grades, but goodness me she thinks it’s the worse exam she’s had so far Confused

TabbyStar · 21/05/2019 08:44

Just been digging out DD's compass and protractor, not quite sure why she didn't need them before this Confused. Apparently one of their friends had been tasked with going into town before school and bulk buying protractors! I sat with her whilst she revised formulas and they were fine. She just hates sitting in the big hall, only a handful of them taking RS yesterday so they were in a much smaller room.

SilentSister · 21/05/2019 08:51

Due to the many roadworks locally, I got DD up super early so we could beat the traffic. We got to school at 7.45 Blush. DD was not impressed. Along with everyone else, Maths today and Physics tomorrow. She will come home after Maths, and do some Physics papers.

Wow to all your super revising DC's. I know for sure if DD was in school all day, she certainly wouldn't then do revision at home. I hope she is doing enough, but I am now leaving it entirely to her. She seems pretty chill, but honestly not looking forwards to results day at all, sadly she is the kind of girl who will be disappointed whatever she gets.

Greeborising · 21/05/2019 08:53

We had the compass/protractor issue last night, thankfully we found them!
I’ve sent dd off with a spare calculator as well
Safety first!

SilentSister · 21/05/2019 09:05

Spare calculator - good call Greeborising missed that one. Now I will be stressing all morning that her calculator will stop working Sad.

Openupyourmind · 21/05/2019 09:08

@Citygirl2019 welcome - so many debates are had over that issue - my friend is a maths tutor and she does battle with the school every year, the kid's confidence is always the thing that suffers. Fingers crossed for a kind paper.

Iambuffy · 21/05/2019 09:13

Me too silent!

Greeborising · 21/05/2019 09:22

Oh no, please don’t worry about that!
Didn’t mean to add to anyone’s anxiety!

AGirlHasNoCake · 21/05/2019 09:36

we have Math and Geography today. Got the kids ready to leave thismorning, said "Have you got everything - calculator? Math set?" cue DD (who has been sat looking at instagram all morning) looking horrified and running up the stairs to fetch it. Hmm

She is on a computer ban for doing something very very foolish, and so has been reading Harry Potter all week. No sense or urgency to study or even get her stuff together.

SHe get above a level 3 in any exams in her mocks.

D0ubleTheJoy · 21/05/2019 09:38

Well, my kids are clearly quite mad - they both stay up late to cram for their exams. Not the best method, believe me I've tried to persuade them to sleep and rest up instead. But they're both stubborn just like me Blush Their fear of failure makes them study and revise, but it's not altogether healthy.

Maths and geography today too. They've not enjoyed Geography at all and were not looking forward to today's exam, especially as it's only the first of 3 Geography papers.

TabbyStar · 21/05/2019 09:45

Yeah my DD hasn't enjoyed geog either, she has liked her human geog teacher but not the physical geog. Very little revision so far, a bit last night and coming straight back after maths today to finish (we are over the road from the school, which is handy). AQA and three papers here too.

whojamaflip · 21/05/2019 10:04

Calculator? Isn't it the non calculator paper today? ConfusedShock

No idea if Ds has his calculator with him!!!!

Iambuffy · 21/05/2019 10:28

Aqa is non calc today

bizzey · 21/05/2019 10:29

EDEXEL in non calculator today.
7 mins and it will be done .
Had a very "souless" little boy going off this morning.
I went into his room as i didn't hrar him up ...and he was just lying there staring at the ceiling. Just not like him.
(I may have had a little cry after he left)

whojamaflip · 21/05/2019 10:47

Thank god for that!! Edexcel today.

Openupyourmind · 21/05/2019 10:49

The geography dept just haven't got their shit together, ds has been going through the spec and the past papers - lots of stuff missing - he's really pissed off with how often this seems to be happening - it's a good lesson learnt now - because the same thing is likely to happen during his A levels, he keeps saying how hard can it be to do your job - follow a spec?

gleegeek · 21/05/2019 10:53

Yes the calculator thing had me panicking!
bizzey Flowers it's really hard to see them not happy. I'll be glad when today is over. Dd is good at maths, but not confident and could get anything from a 4-8 depending on the paper and how much panicking happened! You just want them to show what they can do but I suspect the result won't be a true reflection of her ability

loveonthewall · 21/05/2019 11:03

Update from mine said the maths paper was "gnarly"!

Iambuffy · 21/05/2019 11:09

Bizzey 💐

Iambuffy · 21/05/2019 11:10

I'm not familiar with teen speak...

Is that good or bad???

🤣🤣

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 21/05/2019 11:13

Oh dear, just had a ‘it was NOT good’ text from DDSad. She’s always been great at maths, she did plenty of revision and it was one paper she wasn’t worried about, how soul destroying.

Greeborising · 21/05/2019 11:14

Bad I think buffy !
Surfers say it when the waves are difficult and challenging!

TabbyStar · 21/05/2019 11:17

Edexcel here, first 15 questions were okay, the rest really hard algebra that she couldn't even attempt to solve. DD better with calc papers anyway.

slalomsuki · 21/05/2019 11:18

Maths and geography today and physics tomorrow. It's also first A level paper for DS1 so today is a bit of a pinch point.

This is all on top of my mum being rushed in to A & E unresponsive and unconscious at the weekend and still in hospital at the moment. I've let the school know but they haven't yet informed the exam boards. I'm not sure if I should push for this or leave it alone. I know A level child is a worrier and says so buy gcse one is a bit more introverted about it.
