Welcome all - just went to post on thread 2 and saw it was at 999 so quickly did this

Zoflorabore · 21/05/2019 11:21

Won't hear from ds until he gets home from school at 4.55 ( revision classes ) as he won't turn his phone on in school as they're super strict about them.

I'm hoping it went well. Update later.

bizzey · 21/05/2019 11:23

Which one was gnarly ?(i always thought it meant knotty!)

Bimkom · 21/05/2019 11:24

Ds said "I messed up quite a few times." He says then said hopefully not enough times to put me completely out of a nine. As long as I do better in the other papers. Apparently also "a question I asked someone last night came up as a tricky question that people struggled." - although I don't know if he got an answer last night and so could do it or not. His is a really high performing maths year, the maths teacher, who they worship, was hoping for a clean sweep of nines. So it sounds to me like that the verdict is - very, very hard. a level choice of course.

bizzey · 21/05/2019 11:26

Thanks for the flowers !
Oh god ..he is home !
I make a tea ...and get his brother to ask how it went !🤣

DishingOutDone · 21/05/2019 11:26

slalomsuki the school has to apply to the exam boards for "Special Consideration" after the exams - here's a link to the JCQ site with all the documents I think there is a specific window when they can apply:

DishingOutDone · 21/05/2019 11:27

PS Hope your mum is ok Flowers

Greeborising · 21/05/2019 11:28

So sorry about your mum slalomsuki that’s such a worry. X

bizzey · 21/05/2019 11:32

Slalomsuki ...how awful for you all. Hope your mum is ok.

Iambuffy · 21/05/2019 11:34

slalom 💐

DishingOutDone · 21/05/2019 11:37

BTW, have you all seen this thread where the invigilator altered the time on the clock then finished the exam early, and lots of posters (not all thank god) are defending the invigilator saying the student in question should have sorted it out or sucked it up?!!

myrtleWilson · 21/05/2019 11:37

So sorry to hear about your mom slalom

OP posts:
ILoveYou3000 · 21/05/2019 11:46

Slalom sorry to hear about your mum, hope she gets better soon.

DD is home, still looking terrible. She says it went "okay" which I'm taking as it actually went quite well. Only one question she couldn't answer, but none of her strongest areas on the paper. Considering how much of a challenge maths is to her I'm over the moon for her, I was worried it'd be a disaster.

Have now fed her and instructed her to rest for a couple of hours, I'm hoping she'll fall asleep. I've left her watching Friends on the sofa, with more painkillers and plenty to drink. Will give her a couple of hours then she can do some light physics revision. Fortunately, albeit bizarrely with her maths issues, physics is her strongest science.

pointythings · 21/05/2019 11:46

So sorry to hear about your mum, slalom. It's in the school's interest to apply for consideration. I would give them until the end of the week and then ask. My DDs ' school applied immediately after I told them my mum had died.

DD2 says maths went ok. This is usually a good sign and non calc is her weakest so relief all round.

Iambuffy · 21/05/2019 11:48

Which one pointy?
Aqa or edexcel?

Applepieco · 21/05/2019 11:51

DS said Maths (edexcel) was ‘ok’ but really quite difficult with lots of tricky questions. Much harder than he was expecting.

loveonthewall · 21/05/2019 11:56

It was AQA higher paper that was "gnarly". My lads word for mountain biking on tricky terrain

SilentSister · 21/05/2019 11:58

IGCSE Edexcel (with calculators.....sorry for confusion earlier), we don't do a non-calculator paper, just two normal ones (please don't throw anything at me).

DD just phoned, I was worried, it was really late, and turns out she has been in tears. Awful paper, really difficult, and she went in so optimistic. She struggled with a lot of the questions, I don't know why, she has been getting 85%+ in all the practice papers, but says this paper was really different. Sigh.

Greeborising · 21/05/2019 11:59

Dd just in , Edexcel maths, said it was fine apart from last question which was “a sod”

Greeborising · 21/05/2019 12:01

Sorry Silent didn’t mean to post that after you said dd was in tears

steppemum · 21/05/2019 12:03

Oh I won't know until later, ds has geography this pm.
His head wasn't in a good place this morning, and I am so worried he just won't think clearly, maths is A level subject, was predicted a 9.

Geography less of a worry, but then he hasn't done as much work for it.

MaddieElla · 21/05/2019 12:04

I’m getting one word texts from DD which is not good at all, dying to ask but not pushing her.

She wanted algebra and got circle theorems which she really really didn’t want. Sad

MaddieElla · 21/05/2019 12:04

AQA higher.

steppemum · 21/05/2019 12:05

ds always says - don't worry if it is a hard paper, that means everyone will have found it hard, and so all the marks will be lower. It just means the grade boundaries are lower.

I see where he is coming from, but then you can't tell if it was only hard for your dc can you? I think that works to the advantage of those who like the subject.

readyforsunshine · 21/05/2019 12:09

Slalom how stressful for you all, hope your mum’s ok.
AQA here went very well.
Ilove, hope she recovers with a bit of rest

flatmouse · 21/05/2019 12:10

Won't hear how Dd found maths (edexcel) until after school. geography this afternoon.
Revision wise she's keeping it fairly light. She has done abit of revision in the lead up, so now it's the tailoring to next few exams. Plus no study leave so plenty of revision at school.
@slalomsuki sorry to hear about your mum, hope she is ok.
@Zoflorabore glad to hear Drama teacher sympathetic and helpful. Unlike DD drama teacher who gave out certificates in last lesson. I guess she was aiming at levity and amusement, but when she does not have a good relationship with the pupils it comes across as bitchy and unprofessional. DD won't let me complain to school.
