DD did RS today, the main challenge seems to have been fitting a three digit question number into only two boxes provided on the answer paper! Plus a question on positive discrimination threw her a bit. She's finally doing some last minute geography after some maths at school. She seems fine on exam days but then has meltdowns on weekends!

myrtleWilson · 20/05/2019 21:05

How much revision are your DC doing on exam days...? DD had RS this morning... 9.00am start so finished at 10.45am. We went to get a coffee then went home, she chilled. I made her lunch at 12.30 and then she went up to do some maths at 1.30pm. I know she did at least 1 maths paper as she told me the mark she got but probably no more than 2 hours I guess.... I'm trying to get a balance between not cramming/panicking but actually doing something. I had to remind her today that these were her actual GCSEs and not a practice run!

mytleWilson It depends on whether they are morning or afternoon exams, and also what's upcoming. But I don't think DD gets any more than a couple of hours done on an exam day. She revised all Easter and up to the exams, she revises at weekends and on non-exam days, I am of the opinion that down time is equally important now they are in the thick of it. Some relaxation, TV, running, cycling, having a coffee, whatever, is equally important to keep them going. It's a long old road, I know, I already have one done and dusted, through University and out the other end, and working now. Looking back with DD1 we can't quite understand what all the fuss was about Grin.

myrtleWilson · 20/05/2019 21:31

Thanks Silentsister - that seems in line with with what DD is doing... She did revise all of Easter but seemed a bit disjointed this morning/today. I did wonder whether it was because she hadn't had an exam since Thursday so the rhythm had gone somewhat...

Plus tonight at 9pm she asked me "Do I have a maths set?" Am not entirely sure she's ever used a protractor but had visions of having to be at the supermarket at 7am before sense kicked in and we remembered the many many maths sets we have bought over the years....

Good question Myrtle Dd is definitely struggling to focus on revision on exam days. She didn't do any revision til about 2:30 this afternoon after the RE. She probably did a couple of hours. Then went to her dance class, had tea and has done an hour this evening. If she'd done loads of revision pre exams i wouldn't be worrying but she's flying by the seat of her pants a bit and it's worrying meConfused

Openupyourmind · 20/05/2019 21:36

myrtleWilson my two are aiming for 4 hours every day - they came home today from RS - had a Maths session with their tudor, studied for an hour and then we went to a noodle bar, back home and they have done at least 2 hours. Tomorrow is a big one though - so I would say it depends on how they are feeling about the exam.

Iambuffy · 20/05/2019 21:47

I guess 2/3 hours per weekday but of course he is doing revision at school too

OddBoots · 20/05/2019 21:56

Likewise, 2-3 hours a night but she isn't on study leave so classes in the day too.

Just wanted to say how helpful my Ds is finding this thread and he agrees with what pp have said about the exams that have passed - think it's reassuring him that others are feeling the same way! Geography and maths (non calculator) tomorrow 🙁

grauduroi · 21/05/2019 07:12

Here comes Maths....Good Luck to all, hope it's a good one Smile

And then onto Geography, going to be a long day today.

Maths today which is her nemesis and she's woken looking and feeling awful. She says she has a pain in her side, making her feel sick and she's so pale! She's just said she's not slept cos of the pain.

I'm going to ring the school and request she's allowed straight home after the exam. She can have a nap, then crack on with English Lit revision.

Good luck to everyone for maths this morning and to those doing geography this afternoon 🤞🏼

Maths and Geography today here. Two of his best subjects but he’s looking terrified and went into a bit of a panic yesterday. I’ve been awake since 3 worrying for him and now trying to put on calm exterior. I’m invigilating maths this morning but different board thankfully!

Zoflorabore · 21/05/2019 07:33

Good luck to all the dc's today!

Just maths paper 1 for ds and then lessons as normal for the subjects he hasn't sat yet and revision in those he has.

The sun is shining in Liverpool and ds has his lucky socks on Grin

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 21/05/2019 07:38

Maths and geog here today as well. Good luck all!

myrtleWilson · 21/05/2019 07:40

Maths and geography here today too.

Citygirl2019 · 21/05/2019 07:57

Hi been reading but felt the need to join in today. Maths and geography today.

Maths is DD worse subject but due to steaming was put for higher paper. I've challenged it for the last two years as never gets higher than a 4. Anyway we had to stick with it. She has worked so hard, we got her a tutor to try and help with confidence. Just hope it goes ok today and she gets a 4.

In her mocks she cried. Teacher said it was painful to watch. Just hope she stays calm.

Good luck all.

Citygirl2019 · 21/05/2019 07:58

*steaming in her school

Citygirl2019 · 21/05/2019 07:59

I’m looking forward to hearing the feedback about the maths today!
Good luck everyone!

readyforsunshine · 21/05/2019 08:31

Thanks marking that’s kind Smile
Hardly any revision done here since the last exam last Thursday, she’s been so diligent & is well prepped but I admit to feeling twitchy about it last night when she & her older brother resurrected an old minecraft account to waste a few hours Hmm
She was however chipper & confidant this morning, she needs a good result as she wants to do maths for A level, I feel quite nervous for her for the first time today!
Fingers crossed for all of them
