Hello, my son will be missing the first couple of days of starting his new secondary school due to hospital, does anyone know how soon they start sorting the sports e.g football teams etc, as I do not want him to miss out on these as he loves all his sports? Thank you.

Hi, my lad started last Sept, first two days were mainly spent touring the building, having school pic done and arranging his timetable. He started pe on the Thurs and first week was spent doing fitness tests, he didn't start sport properly until the second week so hopefully if yours is the same he might not miss anything at all

We can't possibly tell you what your school does, can you ask someone in an older year or ring the school?

It will differ by school. DS's held trials at the weekend for example.

As far as I can tell from friends, our school 'spots' y7 pupils in lessons and points them in the direction of the team. (My DDs can hardly catch a ball.)

I presume there is no realistic chance of moving the hospital to earlier or later in order to be present in those first couple of days?

Agree, it is school dependent.
DC's school runs PE trials in the first week, but I would imagine there are future chances for any very sporty DC to get on the teams.

Can you mail the new head of PE to explain the situation? They will want to ensure that all keen players get a chance to be involved.

AT my DD's school you don't get in the team unless you attend the after school club for that sport.
