My British friend is an expat of 12 years. Her husband suddenly passed away abroad. They had a house in Swindon which is rented out and she is thinking it would be easier to move back there.

Could someone please advise about the good schools in Swindon? Her kids will be going into years 6 and 9 in September

Which area of Swindon would she be returning to?

Good Secondary Schools in Sindon few and far between. Would only consider Wootten Basset, Ridgeway and Commonweal.

Thanks for your ideas. Will pass message on to my friend

The buses to Farmor's school In Fairford run from as far away as Swindon.

Commonweal and Ridgeway are the only good two schools actually in Swindon in my opinion. However, they take from catchment and Commonweal for sure become full just on this. Therefore, the school your friend will be able to get their children in will likely be restricted to where the house is. Do you know where this is?

I believe she said west Swindon.

Royal Wootton Bassett Academy and Lydiard Park Academy are good secondary schools local to West Swindon.

For primary, I've heard good things about Brookfield and Lydiard Millicent (which is actually in Wiltshire but very close to West Swindon).
