Options allocated don't match options chosen

Half the year do Spanish and half the year do French.

My Dc does French and yet has been allocated Spanish - which school tell you that you cannot do, you must choose the language you have been studying in year 7 & 8. He did choose French, I saw his sheet.

He has been given only 1 of his chosen options. This isn't an academic issue as he is in top sets and at the top of his classes including the ones he chose.

We believe there has been an error when inputting his choices as the Spanish and other subjects seem like someone else's options. They do say in the letter there may be room for discussion but our worry is the other children have been given their option choices and the classes may be full and so he cannot move. We haven't told him as he will be mortified at the ones he has been given ie Food Tech which he does okay in but doesn't like, never expressed liking.

Has this happened to anyone else? School is closed as we are already in Easter holidays so we can't contact them yet.

I wouldn’t panic. There has probably just been a mix up. They aren’t going to force him to do a GCSE in a language he’s never done before.

There was a mixup when I chose my options and I was somehow given dsis (3years older) options. Tmetabler said himself he couldn't think what he was thinking when he did that (he never normally admitted he was wrong!) I suspect (he liked statistics and that sort of thing) that he kept fairly detailed records which included comparing siblings.

I'd say there is an equally worried ds in the other half of the year wondering how on earth he's going to learn French in two years!

Last year DD’s school accidentally sent out wrong options confirmations to ALL children. It was a big cock up and they soon rectified it. So mistakes do happen.

Inform the school in writing and follow it up for urgent correction.

TansyViola · 01/04/2019 18:50

Someone got given none of their choices last year but they did rectify it.
Dd didn't get one of her choices and i emailed and they said it couldn't be changed. Dd came found to idea of doing the other subject which had been her next choice (but she much preferred her top choice) but then another email went out saying they'd managed to rejig things to give more people their choice (maybe they decided to add on another class)

Came round to the idea of

TeenTimesTwo · 01/04/2019 19:52

I would email the school.
Title it Y9 Options - Error?
And then say what he requested and what has been allocated, and you presume this is an error, but please can someone check.
It may very well be that relevant people will be partly working, and will resolve it for you.
Our school would directly talk to anyone not being given their choices.

Thank you to everyone, I was in a blind panic about it all. Hopefully there is another child in the school who is looking at their options list going French? I don't even do French Grin and they have my son's options.

Such a shock as we were told verbally by the options overseer person that high chance of all options being available and then this. I am glad other people had mix ups. I haven't come across any before.

I have emailed school now asking them to have a look into it for us. Again, thank you to everyone.

they were probably one line out of step on their spreadsheet or something. Hope it gets sorted for you
