Maths topics by paper

Hi

Is there such a thing as a breakdown of maths topics by paper? (Edexcel Higher).

I’ve trawled the internet and read the specification but am just after something in plain English!

Thank you.

I think that in theory anything can come up on any paper.
But I'm not certain, so will be interested to see whether noble confirms this.

Certainly, when DD1 did GCSEs under the old system, at the revision session between papers the teacher provided a list of 'best estimate topics for the next paper' based on what hadn't come up on the first one.

Yes, doesn't exist unfortunately. There are a few like trigonometry which are more likely to come up on a calculator paper but that's still not guaranteed. Any topic can be on any paper.

Yep, Teen is right, any topic can technically appear on any paper. Because paper 1 is non-calc, then that’s where the non-calc skills will be tested, the same questions could appear on the calc paper but with trickier numbers. Circles could be non-calc and give your answers in terms of pi, tricky quadratics that don’t factorise could be non-calc and leave your answer as a surd.

The exceptions I can think of are:
Estimation (non-calc only)
Exact trig values (non calc only)
Evaluating indices e.g. 64^-(2/3) (non-calc only)
Calculations with surds, rationalising denominators (non-calc only)
Entering calculations onto a calculator (calc only)
Harder trig questions like sine/cosine rule, 3D trig (calc only)

Thanks everyone and Nobel for your maths teacher expertise much appreciated.

Stating the obvious it’s a lot of maths to know!

Edexcel produced 18 topic tests for the 2015 spec, each test focuses on 1 to 2 topics. Are those what you are after?

Sorry didn’t read your question properly :)
Like other have mentioned, most topics can appear in any papers apart from some exceptions like bounds will have to be on the Calc papers.
