Travel over 1 hour both ways

My DD is starting her secondary from Sept this year. Her school is 37 miles away from home (grammar school). There is a school bus which takes 1 hour 25 minutes both ways. Am I doing a wrong thing by making my DD travel so long everyday? Please suggest.

Does the school do afterschool clubs? Ours doesn't as most of the school are bussed in. However they have lunchtime clubs. I have to say with the amount of homework we expect to get that does seem like an exceedingly long commute. Would you be able to do pick up occasionally to break the week up?

I do wonder how well you know a school 37 miles away to judge if it is worth it? The school league tables hide a multitude of things if that has aided your decision. To me, a school without after-school clubs is a compromise as it suggests all the children are travelling vast distances. What kind of outside school community will there be?

Additionally I know several children at one of the top state achools who are tutored. Do be sure it is the school and not the reputation/league tables that dazzle.

DH travels to work 38 miles away and it takes the same time as it'd take your dd to travel. He absolutely hates it, it exhausts him.
Think of the time she'll have to get up every morning and the time she'll be getting in.

I personally would not even consider it.

Oh, and that's in the car. Looking at at least 3 bus changes and 3+ hours if he went via bus
