Appeals/Waiting list question

My friend's child was not allocated a place at any of their preferred schools. They are on the waiting list at two schools - mid teens at their first preference and mid twenties at the second. They are also preparing appeals for both schools

They are now thinking of looking at a school that has spaces but wasn't on their original list. If they are offered a place there will they still be on the waiting lists at the other schools and will they still be allowed to present their appeals?

Some LEAs have odd rules about waiting lists and won't let a child join an additional waiting list without making a fresh application and/or surrendering their place on other waiting lists, even though there is nothing in the admissions code to sanction this. It ought to be the case that your friends can apply for the place in the new school and remain on the waiting lists, but it would be wise to get that in writing (email) from the LEA. The appeals should not be affected.

Thank you PanelChair. I'll tell my friend to send an email and clarify the position with the LA.
